Was he worried about the breeze pulling his ball towards the drink? Who knows.

From there he rolls to around four feet but then misses the par putt. An untimely bogey and possibly the end of his hopes of victory.

A bit clumsy from Scottie Scheffler with a wedge on 12, which he's usually so good with, and then he's pretty safe with his birdie putt too as it pulls up well short.

Is he too conservative with that one? Nerves possibly? You'd think another birdie or two could pull him clear but he was keen not to make a mistake there.

Jon Rahm has no issue getting out of the sand but his ball does not chase on and he's putting from 10 feet.

His effort immediately wiggles right and a fan sums up the mood, shouting 'ah Rahmbo'.

It's only a par, when birdies are needed.

A comfortable birdie four for Bryson DeChambeau to get to seven under, three off Scottie Scheffler's lead.

Now it's the Green Mile stretch of 16, 17 and 18. It's where his third round unravelled with three dropped shots - can Bryson do better today?

Jon Rahm can't believe his luck on the 14th, a driveable 330-yard par four.

The Spaniard finds the false front of the green but the camber of the green diverts his ball left into the sand.

A smooth eight iron lands pin high on the 11th green, leaving Scottie Scheffler with a 13-foot putt for a second birdie in a row.

But it just misses on the low, left side as he fails to add enough borrow and it's just a par for the leader to stay only one shot in front.

A fine birdie putt from JT Poston on 12 and he's back to seven under.

He's in the penultimate group so there's still time for him to put a run together.

Matt Fitzpatrick is fuming on the 15th green and thuds his putter down after rolling a birdie putt over the left edge of the cup.

That really needed to drop.

I think he has missed the opportunity of being up at the top in the major championships. I think he's thriving in it, he's worked so hard to get himself into position.

The Englishman is fine albeit in the rough and lays up with his second before pitching to six or seven feet.

A wonderful shot and a big birdie chance incoming for Fitzy.

He [Scheffler]'s got the best bogey bounce-back of the field this week of just over 50%.

Shows how good he is mentally to put the mistakes behind to continue to jump back in and do what he does best.

Jon Rahm has a putt down the slope to reach 10 under but he didn't start that one out quite far enough right and it'll just be a tap-in for par.

Guess what? That's another bounce back birdie from Scottie Scheffler after he bogeyed the ninth but manages to roll in the tricky putt he left himself on 10 to seal his four.

He left nine feet from his bunker shot, but the putter does the job this time and that edges the world number one ahead of Jon Rahm at the top of the leaderboard.

It's going to be a thrilling back nine by the looks of it!

Scottie Scheffler has a crack at the 10th green but finds himself in the bunker with a little tester of a shot to come.

The par-five 10th is the third easiest hole today playing well under par so just a par here will feel like a shot dropped.

Seventeen of the past 19 winners of the US PGA Championship shot under par in the final round.

The exceptions are Brooks Koepka (2019, four over at Bethpage) and Phil Mickelson (2021, one over at Kiawah Island).

Jon Rahm is currently three under for the day and takes his gap wedge out to flight a lovely pitch into the 12th. Another birdie putt incoming.

I've been crunching the stats on Data Golf this week. At the start of the round, Scheffler was given a 78.1% chance of winning given his commanding position.

Given what's happened with Rahm putting the accelerator down, it's now giving Scheffler a 50.1% chance.

Rahm's chances are up to 38.2%.

I'll be honest, I'd written Matt Fitzpatrick's chances off a little bit after that bogey on the 12th but the Englishman is back in the race in sensational fashion.

He chips out of the rough behind the short par-four 14th and in for eagle.
