That is a really interesting remark from Toto Wolff, he very rarely comes on the radio in a Grand Prix, let alone a qualifying session and to me that is saying that he is thinking George Russell has got in his own head almost. He's focussing on all sorts of problems on the car that doesn't sound like Toto Wolff really believes are actually there. But Russell has not had a good qualifying so far.

George Russell goes fourth fastest with a time of 1:06.979.

That's two tenths off his Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli who holds top spot at the minute.

Just before Russell set that time, Toto Wolff had told him over the radio "George, just drive". Deary me.

  4. Team radio - Piastri to McLarenpublished at 15:37 BST

Piastri: "The centre line of my front right tyre looks like it's got some weird lines in it."

Kimi Antonelli has just gone quickest with a 1:06.763 and if I'm not mistaken we're now into the 1:06 mark for the first time this weekend.

Oscar Piastri hauls his McLaren second fastest 0.127 behind with the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in third and fourth as Max Verstappen sits in fifth as it stands.

George Russell's yet to officially set a time with just over three minutes left on the clock.

This might be one of those times where we don't trust the tyre screens on the data board that I have got, it says that the Ferraris are on new tyres and Red Bulls on old but there is only a tenth of a second between the cars, I don't believe that.

Heavy braking into Turn Four, a little bit of a twitch under braking for Max Verstappen, it would have put him slightly off wide from apex to exit but no harm done so far.

    It's speeding up out there.

The two Ferraris go fastest - Charles Leclerc is in top spot as it stands with 1:07.030 while his team-mate Lewis Hamilton is just 0.009 seconds behind.

Lando Norris sets a 1:07.321 in his repaired McLaren on a set of used soft tyres.

The two Red Bulls come out shortly after with Max Verstappen going 0.153 seconds faster than Norris while Isack Hadjar is slightly faster still.

George Russell complaining that all four wheels sliding was his issue but then you look at the track and you look at the layout. He is purple in sector three, the high speed corners.

All four tyres are sliding in sectors one and two, where he's struggling, that would either suggest difficulty under braking or poor traction. I think it is likely more under braking, where he is struggling at the moment.

    We're under way for Q2.

However some news to bring you - Lando Norris has damaged his McLaren in the first session, however it's been repaired and he's out first.

We called it didn't we? Both Williams, both Cadillacs and both Aston Martins out. Both Albon and Sainz have had more or less the same exact moment coming out of Turn 10, big oversteer over the curb. That car is not in a happy place in those high speed corners.

  14. Antonelli fastest in Q1published at 15:25 BST

Kimi Antonelli was the fastest man on track on that first qualifying session.

However his Mercedes team-mate George Russell could only manage fifth fastest, with Lando Norris second, Lewis Hamilton third and Liam Lawson in fourth after a decent showing for Racing Bulls.

Hamilton for pole please because we need this championship given a great big shake up, that’s why we follow F1.

    Keir, Cornwall

Kimi on pole, George 2nd, Lewis 3rd. Like to see Cadillac perform well too.

    Ian, Northampton

It has to be Lewis Hamilton in with a chance of pole here again. The way he's been performing recently, a win in the last race and Ferrari upgrades on a power circuit. He's in a championship fight now, and when he smells a chance, he goes.

Not surprising at all, we have just spoken about it. [Williams] looks like an absolute handful. I think Carlos Sainz is not a happy bunny right now in the Williams car. That is for sure.

Carlos Sainz, the Cadillacs of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon and both Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are at risk at the moment.

Max Verstappen out of the car so he will not be taking part anymore in Q1 but he is safely though for now. He will go again in Q2.
