Vadim: McLaren cannot give Lando a reliable car. Every race weekend there is an issue - it’s getting beyond frustrating. The fans at Silverstone won’t be happy next weekend if this is what they will see.

There's a bit of a jumble of different tyres being used today as the teams try to gauge the high track temperatures.

As it stands, the current top five have all set their respective times on softs.

This is not what you want [issues for Lando Norris and Max Verstappen] to have in free practice one, especially with things on board that you are trying to test out. It could be these high temperatures; there are a lot of drivers complaining about a lack of grip, so it could just be the tyres are struggling in these temperatures.

So then, midway through the session and Kimi Antonelli leads the pack.

However there's been some mechanical issues for Lando Norris - who's yet to get out - and Max Verstappen who launched his Red Bull third fastest despite twice coming to a halt in the pit lane.

Nicholas: Hamilton is fit, so the heat won't worry him. He's working well with his engineer, and the circuit requires precision. Oh, and you can overtake!

KG: Austria is a weak track for Lewis and if Ferrari can arrive here and he can fight the Mercedes. That’s where hope can start to manifest. For now it’s pure enjoyment for LH fans.

"I have very little feeling, basically. It's just...tyres feel hot and no grip" Max Verstappen says of his Red Bull over the team radio.

Likewise Lewis Hamiiton says it's a struggle out there.

The heat is certainly making its presence felt in Spielberg.

Max Verstappen's Red Bull is struggling out there.

Lando Norris might be suffering from some mechanical issues which have stopped him getting out.

But the same can't be said for his team-mate Oscar Piastri who goes fourth fastest after hauling his McLaren to a 1:09.333.

Lewis Hamilton is only 41 points behind Kimi Antonelli, so he's doing alright!

I think through this year we can see Lewis just seems to have his mojo back a little bit. He seems hungry for it. His off-season was tough, as he was probably starting to question things like should he retire.

But I think this has really given him that light again, that spark, to be in the fight for the championship.

Lewis Hamilton comes into this weekend in fine fettle.

He goes sixth fastest with a 1:10.011 however Dino Beganovic - taking the place of Charles Leclerc for this session - goes faster, placing his Ferrari fifth fastest with a 1:09.871.

Max Verstappen's out on track and has made it further than being confined to the pit lane on his previous two attempts.

He sets a 1:09.043 which puts him third fastest, behind Kimi Antonelli - who regained top spot from George Russell shortly before Verstappen crossed the line.

Red Bull are rolling Max Verstappen's car backwards in the pits for the second time. They've obviously got some an issue with that car and the anti-stall system.

Max Verstappen's Red Bull has been pushed back into the garage for a second time.

He's made it about 10 metres down the road before his car's conked out again.

It's not the start to the weekend Red Bull will have wanted with Verstappen's team-mate Isack Hadjar also yet to set a time having had some hydraulic issues earlier in the session.

    More news on Lando Norris.

It would appear that a hydraulic leak has delayed him coming out for this session.

There's still 48 minutes left for him to get out.

  20. Antonelli quickestpublished at 12:40 BST 26 June
