There were groans when the referee paused the kick-off to allow for the VAR check. It looked tight on the screens near us but there were no hints of offside watching it in real time so that is a relief for the home fans.

Arsenal's analysts were working hard just before halt-time in the media box to gather all their information.
They took it down to Renee Slegers and the rest of the coaching staff as they headed down the tunnel.
It was another flat display from the European champions so hopefully it has made a difference this half.

It was an unbelievable strike from Weir but it doesn't come as a surprise given the type of player she is. Her highlights reel at the end of her career is going to be one hell of a watch.

Frustration for Arsenal once again as this stumbling season looks set to continue unless they can find that mettle that made them European champions for the second time in their history last season in the second half.

Wolfsburg coach Stephan Lerch speaking to Disney+: "Very happy. Big match, big win for us, an important win. So we are happy.
"In the first minutes United had a better start but then it was a good match from our side. We deserved the win in the end. In the second half we controlled the game and dominated the opponent, so yes I'm very proud of the team."
On the physicality of his side: "We had good shape in general and the players did a great job. We could run very, very good, this is our mentality and it was a very good performance."
On going for a top-four spot: "Every match, every goal is important, so we are looking for the next two matches after this one in a positive way."
FT: Wolfsburg 5-2 Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder Fridolina Rolfo speaking to Disney+: "I cannot tell you exactly when it changed but we had a great start and I was hoping we could continue in that way but at some point it felt like we were so spread out and not close enough to each other. Defensively we struggled a lot. They could play through us too easy and we could not find our way back, so we struggled a lot."
On tiredness creeping in: "It can play a part absolutely, but it's a mix of different factors. I wouldn't say that it's the main reason, there's other things as well. Hopefully we can turn this around. It would be nice to have a game soon again but now we go on the international break. But we have to learn from our mistakes because this is not good enough."
On still being in a good position: "We've been doing great. Nine points in such a tough Champions League stage, we should be happy, but we have to continue because we want more. We want more than this, and we have to show that."
Time now for some reaction from the early games after a poor defensive performance saw Manchester United lose 5-2 at Wolfsburg.

I think the goal knocks the stuffing out of Arsenal. They dominated that half, not in terms of chances but with regards to possession and creativity.
The goal came against the run of play and it deflated them a little bit.

Worth noting that Caroline Weir was part of the last Scotland team to play at a World Cup in 2019… seems to be forgotten among fans who think the men were the first since 1998 when they secured their place last night. Great goal from Caroline by the way

Commentator's curse from me when I said Weir had had a quiet first half. It's a beautiful finish. The ball comes in and Catley wins the first ball but Weir has acres of space on the edge of the box. On the volley, straight into the back of the net, stunning finish.
Caroline Weir
What a hit from Scotland's Caroline Weir. Real Madrid win a free-kick deep on the right and it is only partially headed clear by Steph Catley under pressure.
But it drops perfectly for Weir, who fires a sizzling 15-yard volley into the net with Daphne van Domselaar not moving.
