  6. Postpublished at 17:28 BST 16 August 2025

    St Mirren 1-1 Hearts

Claudio Braga is tripped by Richard King in the D of the St Mirren box and Hearts have a tasty looking free-kick opportunity.

Stephen Kingsley lines it up but puts too much elevation on it to take the heat off the home side.

  7. Thelin praises Yengi after first Dons goalpublished at 17:24 BST 16 August 2025

    FT Greenock Morton 0-3 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: "That's why I always talk about the character and always giving 100%. We had a lot of fans here again today, and it's always important you give everything when you put on the shirt.

"Every game is important, and you always have to give 100% when you play for Aberdeen, and it was nice to see the players today and how they performed.

"I'm happy with how we attacked them. It was clearer, I think the players got better timing with each other. And then when the timing is there, it's easier to play football, of course.

"I know it's always difficult with cup games, and I think in the things we have worked on, they did better, and [that's good to have] now before the next game in the [Europa League] play-offs.

"So it was good to see some good interactions and some good timing today."

On Kusini Yengi, who scored his first Dons goal after a tough start to his Aberdeen career, Thelin adds: "How he was as a target player was really good, and also happy for him to score the goal, he was in the right place.

"He looked better and better. And also the team-mates start putting ball into the box, and he got more opportunities than he did in other games."

GOAL! St Johnstone 0-1 Motherwellpublished at 17:23 BST 16 August 2025

    Lukas Fadinger

Finally, the breakthrough in Perth and it's for Motherwell.

A lovely goal too as they pop the ball about patiently on the edge of the box before springing to life.

Elliot Watt slips it into Lukas Fadinger's path and he takes a touch before calmly finding the bottom corner.

  9. Postpublished at 17:20 BST 16 August 2025

    ET: St Mirren 1-1 Hearts

It's the same in Paisley. After 105 minutes of football, St Mirren and Hearts cannot be separated.

Those goals by Alex Gogic (St Mirren) and Oisin McEntee (Hearts) seem a long time ago.

Is this one going to penalties?

  10. Postpublished at 17:19 BST 16 August 2025

    ET: St Johnstone 0-0 Motherwell

Still not much happening in Perth as the half-time whistle goes in extra-time.

    Heavy, heavy legs.

  11. Tense in Paisleypublished at 17:14 BST 16 August 2025

    St Mirren 1-1 Hearts

There's a lack of risk in Paisley, understandably, as no-one wants to make the mistake that leads to a goal concession.

Hearts are seeing plenty of the ball but are struggling to find an incisive pass.

  12. CLOSE!published at 17:11 BST 16 August 2025

    St Johnstone 0-0 Motherwell

Elijah Just shows good feet to get into the St Johnstone box, but the Well forward slices a shot wide when he probably should have squared it.

Not for the first time today a player in claret and amber has been guilty of that.

  13. 'Dons defeat won't define our season' - Imriepublished at 17:10 BST 16 August 2025

    FT Greenock Morton 0-3 Aberdeen

Greenock Morton manager Dougie Imrie tells BBC Scotland: "Ah, listen, I think in the end Aberdeen deserved the 3-0 victory, I thought they were outstanding.

"I thought physically they dominated that battle on the ball, they were very, very good.

"The only thing that disappointed me today is I thought my players gave them too much respect, and that sometimes happens when you're playing a team from [the league] above you.

"We just never gave them enough to think about, and that was probably my biggest disappointment today.

"But this won't define our season. Our season will be defined in games like next week against Ayr in the league."

As is pretty much standard with extra-time in football, there ain't much happening in Perth and Paisley.

Tired legs out there in both games.

BBC Scotland at Smisa Stadium, Paisley

Both sets of players taking in plenty of water ahead of extra time. It’s been a warm, humid afternoon here in Paisley, stamina sapping for those out on the pitch.

This will be a real test for both teams and their respective managers.

  18. Postpublished at 17:00 BST 16 August 2025

    ET: St Johnstone 0-0 Motherwell

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at McDiarmid Park

To extra time we go at McDiarmid Park.

Motherwell have dominated this one, yet it is Saints who should have won it in added time when Jason Holt fired wide when it looked easier to score.

In fairness to St Johnstone, they looked more dangerous in the latter stages.

  19. EXTRA TIME St Mirren 1-1 Heartspublished at 16:59 BST 16 August 2025

It's all square after 90 minutes in Paisley.

These two will need at least another half-hour to decide this tie.

  20. Postpublished at 16:58 BST 16 August 2025

    St Mirren 1-1 Hearts

Marcus Fraser takes out Elton Kabangu and the St Mirren defender is rightly booked.

Hearts have a free-kick in a dangerous area, but Alan Forrest cannot find the right delivery.

The ball goes back and forth and then it goes out.
