Not many games left at Goodison Park before Everton move to their new Bramley-Moore Dock home. Yes, it's old. It's a bit rickety in places and good luck if you're plonked in the middle of the press box and you need to nip to the loo.

But Goodison is still a place capable of generating goosebumps. A footballing treasure, a proper ground.

There are another 39,000 inside it tonight and they're making some noise as both teams gather in the tunnel.

Manchester City goalscorer Mateo Kovacic, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It means a lot because my wife is pregnant so it was great to get some goals for the little one. It's nice to score but the most important thing is the team and that we won today. It is never easy to play in the Premier League and today we showed great character. Good game for us.

"We play every three days and every game is a tough one. It is not easy and we have to adapt to the schedule. It is what it is. We have to be in top form every day. We could have conceded an equaliser but thankfully we have Ederson in our goal."

On Jeremy Doku's goal: "That's what you ask from a great winger, to make the difference off the bench and he did great. It was a good game today."

Where do you start with that game? It was like watching basketball at times.

There was absolutely no control in midfield areas, from either side but who cares because it made for an unforgettable 90 minutes.

Brentford went into the game having dropped 38 points from winning positions going back to the start of last season so even at 4-2 up some of the home fans around me were nervy.

Finally though their early goal expertise takes them to a win. For Wolves though, their defensive frailties continue to be a huge concern.

Southampton

Southampton manager Russell Martin to BBC Match of the Day: "I think the game panned out how we though it might. They had the ball but I loved the way we defended. We asked for more courage on the ball and I thought we showed that. We had some really brilliant moments in the second half. When we scored we'd limited them to few chances.

"But they scored too quickly after that, it's a mistake and we get caught losing the ball.

"I feel so much more positive and proud of my team than I did on Monday night, and we played against one of the best teams in the country. If we play like that in the next block of games I'd be very happy.

"Our mentality at 1-1 was much worse than when we scored. Emotions, it's nice to score a goal, it's a nice goal, but we have a problem and we concede.

"I think we're learning and growing and we're on a journey. But we're doing it under huge scrutiny and the intensity of the Premier League. I have to keep the guys on track and on path.

"There's a lot to be frustrated about, we don't have enough points on the board and a win yet, but I loved all of our resilience today. I loved all of that and if we continue to grow I'm going to be happy. "

Everton picked up their first victory of the season here last week and will be aiming for back-to-back wins, but continue to endure injury problems at the back.

Star man Jarrad Branthwaite will be a huge miss today, as Sean Dyche fields a make-shift back four against a Newcastle side that will deploy ex-Toffee Anthony Gordon up front.

The England international had a game to forget last time out at Goodison Park with the home fans singing 'Gordon, what's the score?' in a 3-0 victory.

Can he turn it around tonight?

Dwight McNeil is the man of the moment at Everton.

Three of the club's last five Premier League goals have come from the former Burnley winger.

McNeil, 24, has already equalled his Premier League goal tally for the whole of last season.

For Ipswich it felt like a 'welcome to the Premier League' game. If you are not at full tilt, you get beaten comfortably.

There’s something about this Arsenal team that feels different to other seasons. That sense of self belief is stronger, and they now possess the ability to quickly shrug off adversity.
