  1. Man Utd finishing season with a whimperpublished at 12:50 BST 16 May

Chelsea v Man Utd (13:00 BST)

Manchester United are winless in their last three WSL games (D2 L1), their worst run since failing to win any of their final four matches of last season (D2 L2).

In all competitions, the Red Devils are winless in five (D2 L3), their joint-worst run as a Women’s Super League side.

And today could be a tough as for them.

Marc Skinner's side have won just one of their 17 WSL games against fellow “big four” sides since the start of the 2023-23 season (D6 L10), with Chelsea (33), Arsenal (30) and Manchester City (24) winning at least 15 more points than the Red Devils (9) in such matchups in the top-flight in that same period.

Chelsea are also the only team that Manchester United have never beaten in the WSL, failing in all 12 previous attempts (D2 L10).

  2. London City's debut WSL season in numberspublished at 12:49 BST 16 May

London City Lionesses head into the final day of the Women’s Super League season in seventh place

And a win against Aston Villa, coupled with Brighton losing to Tottenham, will see them wrap up their debut WSL campaign with a top-half finish.

If they do so, they will be first newly promoted side to finish in the top half since Manchester United’s fourth-placed finish in 2019-20.

Their tally of 24 points is the highest ever recorded by a newly promoted side in the WSL.

And they could still script more history today as a win will be their seventh of the campaign - the most ever by a promoted team in a single WSL season.

London City have scored 26 goals in 21 league games, averaging 1.24 per match - a return bettered by only three promoted sides in WSL history - Sunderland (1.71 in 2015), Manchester United (1.71 in 2019-20) and West Ham (1.25 in 2018-19).

  3. Seagulls focussed on FA Cup finalpublished at 12:49 BST 16 May

    Brighton v Tottenham (13:00 BST)

While Tottenham have already enjoyed their best-ever season in the WSL, Brighton could also set their best points tally in a single season at this level - beating out their 28 from last term (26 currently).

The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last five WSL matches (W2 D3), the longest run of their top-flight history.

Just how much will Brighton go for this one, though?

With an FA Cup final on the horizon against WSL champions Manchester City, attentions will almost certainly be on that.

  4. Can the Toffees or the Foxes end drab season on a high?published at 12:47 BST 16 May

Everton v Leicester City (13:00 BST)

It's been less 'home sweet home' and more 'house of horrors' for Everton at Goodison Park this season.

After their summer move from Walton Hall the Toffees were hoping to usher in a new era of success on home soil, instead they've struggled in new surroundings with eight defeats from ten home outings.

Equally as dour has been Leicester's form, home and away, with just one win in their last 19 Women's Super League games.

The last time they did collect three points? Away at Everton of course, back in January 2024.

Oh how they could do with the confidence boost of victory ahead of next week's relegation/promotion play-off at second tier Charlton Athletic.

Result of the season for me was Arsenal going to Stamford Bridge and winning 2-0, then beating City the following game. Put some optimism back into what the team could achieve.

    Liverpool v Arsenal (13:00 BST)

Liverpool will be happy to see the back of the 2025-26 campaign.

12 defeats from 21 played, their joint most-ever in a top flight season, five draws, and just four wins.

For a long time relegation loomed, but crucial wins against Leicester, Tottenham and Aston Villa early in the new year ensured that those were dispelled with plenty of time to spare.

Now one last grand occasion for Gareth Taylor and his players as they welcome soon to be dethroned champions of Europe Arsenal to Anfield.

The Gunners themselves arrive in need of three points to make absolutely sure of second place and direct access to the continent's top table next term.

  7. Second spot - Chelsea or Arsenal?published at 12:45 BST 16 May

Chelsea v Man Utd (13:00 BST)

Who would have thought the six-in-a-row defending WSL champions would be in this position at the start of the season?

Chelsea must win today and hope that Arsenal lose at Liverpool if they are to finish second in the league and make sure of a Champions League spot without having to go through what are often gruelling qualifying rounds.

If Arsenal win there's nothing more Chelsea can do and they will finish third. A draw would also see the Gunners finish second on account of their far superior goal difference.

Essentially Chelsea need to win and then hope.

    Greenwood wants Shaw to stay

Manchester City captain Alex Greenwood hopes they will be celebrating Khadija Shaw's successes for the club "for years to come" and that she stays.

Shaw, 29, scored twice as City came back from 2-0 down to beat Chelsea and reach the Women's FA Cup final last Sunday.

Shaw, known as 'Bunny', sits next to Greenwood in City's changing room and the England international does not want to see her leave the club.

"She is a fantastic player and I absolutely love Bunny. She's one of my closest friends in football and I care about her a lot," Greenwood told BBC Sport.

"I would be lying if I said I knew what the future was for Bunny because I don't. But I hope we celebrate with Bunny in a City shirt for years to come."

On the possibility of Shaw leaving Man City for free this summer:

What is the ambition of the club then? If you are letting Shaw go then who are you bringing in to replace her? Do you want to continue to win titles because who is going to score the goals she does season on season?

The players have to be having conversations about what is the ambition. If you are letting our best striker go to our rival, who is going to be in a better position than we are, then what is happening?

On the possibility of Shaw leaving Man City for free this summer:

Shaw can create something out of nothing. She needs not even half a yard in the box. She is that clinical edge for this title winning and FA Cup final team.

It is about showing that you value a player. The ball is completely in Man City's court. They have just won the title, qualified for Champions League, there is no reason for them to be in negotiations still other than she's not been offered the contract she wants.

She absolutely deserves it. Back to back seasons wth incredible stats. For me it is the responsibility of the club to offer the player the contract that they deserve, that matches up to the calibre of player she is.

The last thing you want is for her to go to a rival in the WSL.

Today might well be the final WSL game of Khadija Shaw's five-year Manchester City stint.

And she will hope to bow out on a high by getting on the scoresheet on the final day of the season before lifting the WSL trophy for the very first time.

Shaw is set to secure a third successive WSL Golden Boot after scoring 19 goals in 21 appearances and she will be City's top scorer for a fourth year in a row.

The 29-year-old is also just one goal away from becoming the first player in WSL history to score 20 or more goals in three different seasons.

The Jamaica international, who was crowned the Football Writers' Association Women's Footballer of the Year this month, is set to leave City, with Chelsea favourites to sign the striker on a free transfer.

On moments during the season that won Man City the title:

There were a number of different games that maybe previously, two or three years ago, they may have only got a draw or maybe lost, rather than digging in deep and finding something they haven't found before. Knowing how to get over the line and get that three points.

A few occasions they found late goals, against Liverpool, London City Lionesses, Leicester, Liverpool again, Arsenal, and then Brighton, this is where they got some big, big wins. Instead of getting six points from these games, they got 18, which is a big swing points wise.

  13. 'That has been City's biggest difference'published at 12:39 BST 16 May

West Ham v Manchester City (13:00 BST)

    Jen Beattie
Former Scotland defender on BBC Women's Football Weekly

On what finally got Man City over the line for the title:

At the end of those seasons where I came second or third with Arsenal, I distinctly remember looking back and thinking: 'We drew too many games'. Those are the moments, the dropped points, that when you actually win, and Man City are a perfect example of this, that mentality, that is the reason why they have dominated.

To be honest we've seen it from Chelsea for so long, when you're not playing well but still winning. That has been City's biggest difference. It can be scrappy, messy and desperate but winning those is what wins you the title.

  14. Coronation time for Man Citypublished at 12:38 BST 16 May

Manchester City wrapped up their Women’s Super League title earlier this month with time to spare.

But today marks the moment they finally get their hands on the trophy after they ended a decade-long wait and brought Chelsea’s six-year reign at the top to an end.

Andree Jeglertz's side defeated Liverpool 1-0 in their most recent league game on 3 May before third-placed Arsenal's 1-1 draw at Brighton three days later confirmed their triumph.

City finish their title-winning campaign at West Ham but the result at the Chigwell Construction Stadium will matter little as the champions will lift the silverware regardless to cap a landmark season in style.

    Everton v Leicester (13:00 BST)

Scott Phelan makes three changes to the side which started Everton's 1-0 defeat by Arsenal on Wednesday.

Aurori Galli and Ornella Vignola replace Clare Wheeler and Maz Pacheco in midfield while Zara Kramzar comes in to partner Yuka Momiki up top.

Everton XI: Brosnan; Kitagawa, Fernández, Mace, Blundell; Vignola, Galli, Hayashi, Payne; Kramzar, Momiki.

Subs: Wheeler, Gago, Ramsey, Lawley, Harbert, Snoeijs, Stenevik, Pacheco, Jones.

  17. 'An exciting season to watch'published at 12:34 BST 16 May

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC Women's Football Weekly podcast

It's been a really enjoyable season to be honest.

We've seen some ridiculous results, we've seen some movement in the table especially around that top five area, Spurs went on that incredible run, Brighton making the surge at the end,

It was tight at the bottom for quite a few months, yes a disappointment for Leicester, but Liverpool and West Ham were down there as well.

We obviously still see the three groups, bottom, middle and then those pushing at the top, from a neutral perspective it has been exciting to watch.

  18. 'Competitiveness has been the best yet'published at 12:33 BST 16 May

    Jen Beattie
Former Scotland defender on BBC Women's Football Weekly

For me the competitiveness of the Women's Super League, from top to bottom, this season has been the best yet.

In terms of who's going for the title, Champiosn League qualification, the relegation battle, even WSL 2 and the teams fighting to jump up.

It's been so enjoyable every single week and that has been credit to the players and the investment.
