Callum Hudson-Odoi fancies it down this left-hand-side. This was brilliant and the goalkeeper was equal to it.

The same players involved but this chance is better. Callum Hudson-Odoi cuts in from the left side and curls a shot towards the far bottom corner - well saved by ex-Celtic keeper Vasilios Barkas.

Callum Hudson-Odoi gets into the box but then his shot is weak and central and Vasilios Barkas saves it within having to think too much about it.

Nottingham Forest need some experience on the pitch and Douglas Luiz can certainly offer that. He is only just right to come back, so I don't expect him to play the whole game.

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche: "We've made it very clear with our performances in this competition that we mean business, and I think we've done very since I've been at the club in them performances.

"Now we've got to go and do it again. Away from home is always a tricky one, but we've got to go and deliver.

"I think we've done well in this competition so far, even with changes that have been made. The players have been really up for it, and we want to do well again.

"With the changes we've made I think we've looked nice and solid, and I think that's fair play to the players taking onboard a lot of what we're trying to change as a collective.

"I've been very pleased with the squad's mentality, because changes haven't really drastically affected performances so far and that's what we want again."

It is a balancing act. Would you try to continue the players every match with the players knowing what they want to do?

I understand Sean Dyche resting players because the Premier League is the focus.

It is very difficult [to balance all competitions].

When I was at West Ham and we won the Conference League we struggled in the Premier League, but still managed to win it.

Today, Nottingham Forest are lucky as they have Douglas Luiz and Oleksandr Zinchenko back.

Very good seeing some players coming back from injury for Forest. I hope to get a result tonight and then the priority game against Spurs.

  19. Forest are 'completely different kind of opponent'published at 17:26 GMT 11 December 2025

Utrecht v Nottingham Forest (17:45 GMT)

Coach Ron Jans of FC Utrecht gesturesImage source, Getty Images

Utrecht coach Ron Jans: "This is a completely different kind of opponent. If you look at all the data, they concede very few goals and have not many shots on target.

"They also don't press the opposition high. They have a defensive block from which they score on the break or from set pieces.

"That's perhaps their greatest strength. That's really different from, say, Real Betis, who really control the game.

"You need a bit of luck, but you also have to earn it. You just have to stay on top of things with the support of the crowd, and get the best out of yourselves.

"Then we can make it difficult for any team, Nottingham [Forest] included."

This is the first time these sides have ever met in a competitive game.

They played in friendlies in 1983 and 1986 - presumably relating to goalkeeper Hans van Breukelen, who played for both sides.
