As we head into stoppage time, Rangers have a second goal ruled out.

Mikey Moore is through on goal. Instead of shooting, the winger finds Thelo Aasgaard to slot home.

But the substitute midfielder is offside - just!

Dundee head coach Stephen Pressley tells BBC Scotland he hasn't talked with his players about the prospect of leapfrogging United in the table.

"I keep reminding us it's about getting ourselves safe," he says. "We have to find the points to secure our future in this division. Three points today would be a big step in that direction.

"History will tell you, if you average a point per game, that will generally be enough, so we have to get to 38 points."

Pressley adds: "We have to make sure we play with confidence today, that controlled aggression, no complacency."

Good chance at the other end for Jake Young.

But the St Mirren striker drags it wide of the far post from 15 yards.

In the opening hour, Rangers had lots of control but weren't able to translate that into chances.

They've lost all control over the last 15 minutes and St Mirren are in the ascendancy, but they've not worked Jack Butland even though the momentum has shifted.

Rangers scorer Tuur Rommens is replaced with fellow left-back Jayden Meghoma.

And Bojan Miovski is on for Ryan Naderi, who has again failed to impress up front.

There's still a sense that this game isn't done, despite Rangers' dominance of the ball and superior chances.

St Mirren will feel they can still get something from this one with Jonah Ayunga and Jake Young now on alongside Dan Nlundulu as forward options in these last 12 minutes or so.

It is St Mirren who are looking the most likely to score at the minute.

However, their crosses into the box have been fairly wayward.

Meanwhile, fit-again forward Jonah Ayunga replaces full-back Scott Tanser.

Another attacking change from the hosts' interim management.

Connor Barron, back from injury, and Thelo Aasgaard have replaced midfielder Tochi Chukwuani and striker Youssef Chermiti, who have both been pretty ineffective for Rangers.

The visitors are struggling to take advantage of this injury-hit St Mirren side.

It is indicative of the different expectations on opposite sides of Tannadice Street that there is more pressure on Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin than his Dundee counterpart - despite his side being above Sunday's hosts in the Premiership table.

A narrow win over St Mirren in their last league game had kept alive United's outside hopes of a top-six finish.

But, given in-form Falkirk's 10-point lead with four games remaining before the Premiership splits into two for the final five fixtures, it appears like a forlorn task.

With United subsequently losing their Scottish Cup quarter-final to the very same Falkirk, it leaves Goodwin's side with little to play for the rest of this season other than finishing the best of the top six.

St Mirren certainly aren't out of this game.

Rangers have dominated, but while it is just 1-0, they are vulnerable to an equaliser and yet another in a series of damaging draws.

The Buddies are enjoying more territory now than they have had all game.

It's been a while since Johnny Russell was involved in a Dundee derby.

His last visit to Dens Park in United colours came in December 2012, a 3-0 victory.

The veteran striker, who recently returned to Tannadice from Major League Soccere, didn't score that day but did get two goals and a red card in his previous derby outing.

He was on the winning side four times in six meetings with Dundee during his first spell.

You feel St Mirren are being stretched almost to breaking point, given the number of injuries they've had to deal with around this match.

They're just about managing to keep themselves in the game with just a single-goal deficit, but the visiting goalkeeper Jack Butland has hardly had a touch of the ball, unless from back passes from his own side.

An indication of how hard this one is for the depleted hosts. You sense Rangers heading closer to a second and some insurance in the game.
