This is Joao Felix's first Premier League start for Chelsea since May 2023.

It's his first start as a permanent player, since re-joining in the summer in a deal worth around £40million.

Ideally, Felix admitted he sees himself playing as a central attacking midfielder, but the problem is that's star man Cole Palmer's role at Chelsea.

It is also rare to see the duo on the pitch at the same time but he has been given the nod on the left today.

As most would have expected, it is Enzo Maresca's Chelsea who have taken charge of the ball and penned Leicester in their own half.

What's there not to like about Cole Palmer? He is a bit of a maverick but he works well in this Chelsea structure but he still has a real personality out on the pitch.

He is unorthodox in interviews, on the pitch he walks around and almost looks disinterested at times but then comes up with moments of magic. Everything he does looks absolutely effortless. He is the complete midfielder.

Cole Palmer has been directly involved in 10 goals in just five Premier League appearances against promoted sides for Chelsea, averaging a goal or assist every 43 minutes in such matches.

No player has been directly involved in more goals following a ball carry in the Premier League this season than Palmer (five).

Palmer (12) and Noni Madueke (five) have created more chances for each other than any other pair of teammates in the Premier League so far this season (17).

Chelsea are hit by two surprise absentees with defender Malo Gusto out ill and Pedro Neto picking up a knock on international duty.

The pair add to Reece James who suffered a hamstring injury in training days before the trip to the King Power stadium.

It means Neto's compatriot Joao Felix plays on the left-wing and Wesley Fofana plays at right back with Benoit Badiashile coming in at centre-back in two of three changes from the draw with Arsenal before the international break.

Enzo Fernandez also plays ahead of Romeo Lavia, who picked up an injury in that match, but remains fit enough for the bench.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said this week that Leicester City's Jamie Vardy is England's best striker in his generation - better even than Harry Kane or Wayne Rooney.

Before his reunion with the 37-year-old forward and his former club at the King Power Stadium, the Italian was asked about Vardy, who has started all 10 of Leicester's Premier League matches this season, scoring four times.

"Vardy is fantastic and people don't realise how good he is," Maresca said.

"I know that England has been quite lucky with strikers, like Kane, Rooney and many others, but if you ask me he has been the best one.

"He can do many things, like run in behind and finish, but the best thing for me is his open mind. Last year he changed the way he was playing by dropping in, linking the play and he still wants to learn. But of course he still has the one thing that is most difficult to find, which is to score goals."

The return of Enzo Maresca to King Power Stadium with Chelsea on Saturday will take the spotlight.

The title-winning head coach, who took Leicester back to the Premier League before moving to Stamford Bridge, deserves a place in the Foxes' history books.

But the club needs to move forward and Maresca's comeback has to be a footnote in the big picture. While it was a successful, brief spell - even if there were some grumblings about the patient style last term - there is little point dwelling on the past.

Steve Cooper has been trying to implement his vision into the team since replacing him but that naturally takes time and the squad are still taking on board the instructions having been playing in such a specific way under Maresca.

With that work, Leicester have been steadily improving, with the exception of last month's poor 3-1 defeat by Nottingham Forest. Snatching a late point against Ipswich means they have still not lost to a team below them this season.

The struggles of those below still leave the Foxes in a solid position, although it remains precarious given that any drop-off would, most likely, see them slip into the bottom three.

The progress of moving away from the Maresca era has been slow but it is happening - and while a title-winning manager should not be forgotten, it is important to look to the future.
