Just before the end of Manchester City's warm-up, skipper Kyle Walker was having a detailed chat with Rico Lewis.
He seemed to be explaining the kind of angles of movement he was expecting when Lewis released the ball.
Doubtless that kind of attention to detail will be reinforcing Pep Guardiola's words.
Rodri's boots are huge and will need more than one player to fill them.

Newcastle’s performances have not been there all season but they have been picking up results, most of the time. They could have gone top for a few hours last weekend, had they not lost at Fulham after a disappointing performance.
They have given Manchester City a good game at St James' Park in the past couple of years but, given their current form and the fact they are yet to click, I am not sure this game will be as close.
City are without Rodri but I still think they will win comfortably. Of course they will miss him, but they have players who are capable of stepping in.

He dictates the pace and the flow which is why Pep Guardiola feels he is so reliable.
When you compare it to the options of Kovacic and Nunes, they have a luxury of riches and we know what Pep's like. He's not going to do the simple fix. You have got John Stones who can go in there.

Erling Haaland has scored 10 goals in five Premier League games this season, which is the earliest a player has ever reached double figures from the start of a campaign in the competition.
The Norwegian could become only the second player ever to score in each of a team’s first six matches of a Premier League season, after Sergio Agüero did so for Manchester City in 2019-20.

That was Manchester City, who won 3-2 on their last visit in January.
Newcastle boast the longest ongoing home scoring streak of any side in the competition, having scored in each of their last 21 home league games since a 0-0 draw with Leicester in May 2023.
City, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 28 league games - winning 23 of those - after John Stones' 98th minute equaliser against Arsenal last time out.
24 of these games have been in 2024, which is the longest run without a Premier League defeat from the start of a calendar year since Chelsea in 2008 (26).

You are close to the action, both dug-outs are in front of you so it is easy to spot what the managers (and backroom staff) are up to.
If it is raining, it is rubbish because the stand roof offers only partial cover. But it doesn't look like there will be any issues on that score today.

Don't forget, Arsenal have still got Martin Odegaard missing. I'd still bring Liverpool into that conversation by the way but everyone looking around realise how important Rodri is to Man City.
Ballon d'Or contender. But I think Pep Guardiola will have a plan. When you play that position, it's a position where there are two types of players that play that position. You can either have someone who gets around the pitch and is a destroyer or someone like and Busquets or a Rodri who is a passer and a ball player.
Rodri is going to be a huge miss but the players Man City have that could play that position are intelligent. No one is going to be Rodri, don't get me wrong, but to play that position you need a certain level of intelligence and I think that's what City have got.

"We have to [deal without Rodri]. We have to. When you use the word team it means that and we have to do it as a team.
"We are sad, like Oscar Bobb having three or four months out, we are sad too. Unfortunately the situation with Rodri happened."
On Newcastle: They start so strong and will be in Europe and title contender. Every year it is getting better than team and it is not easy to play there. Fulham were really good last week and Newcastle were not far off that.

Anthony [Gordon] will play the role differently and we want him to play with that freedom. He is devastatingly quick so we want to use all his strengths."
On dealing with Sandro Tonali's ban last season: "It was difficult because we had a perfectly fit, brilliant player we couldn't use. It was almost an optical illusion but all we could do is focus on his comeback. He is ready to play, he looks really focused. He can make a real difference for us. He is an outstanding player."

Today's match programme went to print too far in advance to mention the awful news around Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales, who has been diagnosed with blood cancer.
Eales will step down as soon as Newcastle have found a replacement but for now says it's business as usual.
Nevertheless, it must be a worrying time for Eales and his family.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola mentioned it in his press conference and I am sure spoke for everyone when he said he hoped Eales would be OK and his health must be his priority.

Eales, 52, joined Newcastle in August 2022 and he will continue in his role until a successor is appointed.
"Being CEO of Newcastle United is an extraordinary privilege and I am incredibly proud to be part of the club's exciting journey," Eales said.
"However, it has become apparent to me that now is the right time to make this decision so that I can prioritise my health and my family.
Eales was appointed within the first year of Newcastle's £305m Saudi Arabian-backed takeover and, in the period since, the club reached its first domestic cup final in 24 years in the 2022-23 Carabao Cup and returned to the Champions League after Eddie Howe’s side finished fourth in the Premier League.

Wolves have lost more Premier League games against Liverpool than they have vs any other opponent (16). They’ve lost 14 of their last 15 against the Reds in the league, with the exception being a 3-0 home win in February 2023.
Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in 65% of their Premier League games against Wolves (13/20), the second-highest rate of any side to have faced another 20+ times in the competition, after Chelsea against Middlesbrough (67% - 20/30).
Wolves remain without a league win so far this season (D1 L4) – only in 2003-04 (first seven) and 2019-20 (first six) have they gone longer without victory from the start of a Premier League campaign.
Liverpool have won five of their last six Premier League games (L1), keeping a clean sheet in each victory. The Reds had conceded in each of their previous 10 games before this run (16 goals conceded in total).
