You can't describe that without saying the phrase 'smash and grab' because that is exactly what that goal is.

Bologna players are furious, they don't think it should have been a corner in the first place because there was a handball in the build up.

But this is what Villa have been playing for. Their first piece of controlled play in the game led to those two corner kicks.

Pretty much totally against the run of play that goal. But Villa won't care. They've made it count from a set piece.

Daichi Kamada takes the resulting free-kick but it sails straight into the gloves of David De Gea.

Dodo pushes Evann Guessand but it is rather soft and despite howls from the home fans, a second yellow card doesn't appear.

One to keep an eye on.

Daniel Munoz crosses into the box and it is sent behind for a corner.

Adam Wharton takes it again and Maxence Lacroix heads off target.

Crystal Palace have had three weeks since their last competitive fixture but they have looked fresh and raring to go.

Oliver Glasner will be very pleased with what he has seen from his side so far.

To be fair to Forest, since that incredibly fortunate equaliser they have settled quite a lot and are playing well.

A dangerous ball across the box but Ryan Yates can't latch onto it.

Adam Wharton swings it into the box and David De Gea catches with ease.

Well that was worth a go.

John McGinn, who has so often been Villa's bright spark this season, strikes low and hard towards the bottom corner but his effort drags just wide.

The biggest disappointment about Aston Villa as we get close to the half-time whistle, is that they have not put that midfield stamp on it.

They have very rarely put their foot on the ball and controlled the possession at any point.

Palace double their lead. Fiorentina caught cold by lovely flicked ball over the top that Munoz latched onto. He squared for Mateta, whose shot was kept out by a smart De Gea stop, but Mitchell was there to turn into an empty net.

There was a VAR check for the second goal but it was fairly quickly deemed to be onside.

So far so good for Crystal Palace.

Aston Villa can so far consider themselves pretty lucky to still be level.
