Since the start of the season, Crystal Palace have sold Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi for a combined £80m, suffered a humiliating FA Cup exit at the hands of non-league Macclesfield, gone on a rotten 12-match winless run, while boss Oliver Glasner has announced he is leaving at the end of the season.

Yet here they are with one foot in a major European semi-final.

After demolishing Fiorentina 3-0 in the Conference League quarter-final first leg at Selhurst Park, will Palace finish the job in Florence?

Mateta, making his first Palace start since a proposed move to AC Milan collapsed, converted from the penalty spot in the 24th minute after Evann Guessand was fouled by Fiorentina defender Dodo.

The French striker played a part in Palace's second goal seven minutes as Tyrick Mitchell finished off the post after former Manchester United keeper David de Gea had saved Mateta's effort from close range.

Ismaila Sarr added the third in the 90th minute when he headed a wik cross past De Gea.

Last week Nottingham Forest benefitted from a freak own goal by Martim Fernandes.

The Porto defender accidentally passed it into his own net from 45 yards with goalkeeper Diogo Gomes stranded, to cancel out William Gomes' early opener.

Was it up there with some of the worst own goals ever to be scored?

Anyway it means we're all square at the City Ground this evening - it's all to play for.
