When Everton haven't got the ball, they need a bit of pressure on the back two of Fulham.

I don't know if that's going to come from Ndiaye or Gana Gueye jumping up from midfield.

I hope you are right, Sham. I've had a bit of a cold today and need things to be happening on the pitch to stop me from feeling increasingly sorry for myself.

Everton fans may not be happy but this has been a solid away performance so far.

The ball continues to be played mostly in the Everton half and the home fans are becoming increasingly restless.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to BBC Match of the Day: "We played a fantastic match, against this team was very difficult. We imposed our ideas. We created chances to scored in the first half, we had one goal which was not because the ball was out.

"We improved even in the second half and for 35 minutes we played fantastic. We created chances, we stopped them, and we scored the goal. But we knew before how we needed to be always ready for everything, because they are a team who are always going forward when they get the ball.

"At the last moment we didn't control the match. For the last 10 minutes we didn't control. Of course we deserved to win, but we have to accept it. It's painful but we have to accept it.

"We are being very demanding and we want to be in the top position in the league. But we have to accept that we are continuing. We are having a fantastic start in the league and Champions League and we are of course frustrated because we want to win."

On Villa's disallowed goal: "VAR is clear, of course. If VAR is telling us no goal it's clear. For me the referee was fantastic today. It was not a goal because it was out, through VAR."

Jordan Pickford kicks his own goalpost in frustration as he hits the ball out of play. He kind of sums up the Everton team in that they've not been quite at it yet.

Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Being completely honest, I am still irritated. In many ways we did not do well enough, so big respect and praise to Ipswich. They were by far the better team for the first fourty minutes, there was only one team on the pitch - one of our worst ever in the Premier League.

"The last five was better and then second half we were clearly the better team and got back to 3-2 up and then lacked the killer instinct to finish it off.

"To be fair a brilliant cross and finish for 3-3, so well played for them. And then for the 4-3 we had some margins go with us, we put a lot of crosses in and if you keep doing that then maybe there is a mistake at the end of one. Let's put it this way, when we play it is exciting."

On seeing out the game for the win: "Massively important. It is fantastic mentality to come back from 2-0 down, and then in the end to win the game right at the last moment is big. Last year we had a long spell of games that we could not win but this season we finally managed to win these sorts of games."

On if his players can do better: "Yes I said at half time I was angry, it is not often that I am that irritated but we were so poor. In the football and the Premier League we take nothing for granted, so we need to enjoy the win."

Talking of household equipment, Fulham may as well have stuck a wheelie bin in goal in the early stages of this game.

Good intensity from Fulham forces Michael Keane to kick the ball out of play on the right side of his own box. The visitors can't make it count, but the home fans are not enjoying seeing Fulham being able to dictate play a bit.

Fulham are using Raul Jimenez a lot and Iwobi is coming in off the line.

Jimenez is playing really well and they are having a good spell in the game.

Everton work the ball well down the right before switching play to the opposite flank. The ball is then sent into the box but Antonee Robinson heads away.

The ball doesn't quite fall for Andreas Pereira as he looks for an opportunity to get a shot off inside the box.

Fulham have settled really well and there's a glimmer of frustration from the home fans that they have been allowed to do so.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna speaking to PLP: "So proud of the performance to be honest. Some of the challenges we have had this week with injuries and players dropping out late have been among the hardest I have faced at the club. The performance with 11 men to the performance with 10 men was great. It was on the right track and will lead us to where we want it to lead us to.

"It is a sickener for everyone but you see the reaction from the fans at the end, the support they have for the players, it was an incredible effort from everyone."

On the first half: "It was an incredible start, we knew that you have those days where everything you plan, 90% comes off, but it isn't always going to be enough to get a result. We limited them to very little before the first two goals, and hit well on the counter but they showed so quality moments too."

On battling back at 3-2: "I always felt like it was there, we had a threat the whole game. George Hirst on his first league start was incredible and then we had Liam Delap to come on who is a big goal threat. Down to ten men we still felt like there would be chances for us."

On the late winner: "I think we have the box pretty well covered, we could have done better in terms of getting out to the cross but they will get crosses in when you are down to ten men. There was a decision to let the ball go through and maybe it is a bit of a misunderstanding and it goes in the corner of the net. A poor goal but the players involved had outstanding performances, we are dealing with humans and mistakes can happen."

Issa Diop and Calvin Bassey are at the heart of the Fulham defence today, absolute units back there.

The Cottagers used to have a player called Papa Bouba Diop - who sadly passed away in 2020 - and he was known as 'The Wardrobe'.

Well the current two are built similar to an American fridge-freezer and a garden shed.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin chases a good ball into the box, he tries to flick the ball beyond Calvin Bassey and drops to the floor as he tries to get round the defender. Everton fans shout for a penalty but the referee is not interested.

Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to MOTD: "The way they played, they are so demanding. They defend with the ball. You can defend with the ball and they are really good, one of the best in the Premier League. They didn’t create many chances, but we created a lot but unfortunately we could not score the second. Big credit to them, it was not because we were sloppy or flat. I don’t have that feeling. I think we were there and sometimes they are good. We have to accept that."

On Erling Haaland: “It is not easy for him because every cross is a penalty for Erling - the way they pull him. We create more but we could not score the second, but Erling is a guarantee for us.

On Savinho and Matheus Nunes: "Really good. Savinho was created all the chances, right to left. I would say really good. And Matheus is not in a position that is not his natural position again so offensively and defensively, make another assist. He played really good."

On Mateo Kovacic: "He’s a incredible man and player. We miss Rodri a lot this season, he’s such an important player. At the same time we have to continue to do it."

On whether he will have any injured players back against Tottenham: “I don’t think so. We will see what happens. In this calendar, the Carabao Cup is just to play with the young players. We will see if we play with academy players or see how they come back fresh from that."
