We've spoken about Arsenal's squad depth this season, and that's why, because when you're bringing on the quality they did tonight in Martinelli and Havertz, you want them to go on and have an impact on the game and they did that.

But if it wasn't for the brilliance of David Raya at the back to give them that platform to get something.

This place is a tough place to come to and get a result and Arsenal have done that tonight in which could be a huge result for them going forward. That gives you great belief for the coming months and they need all of that.

Great win for Arsenal, professional performance away from home. Big up to Raya, the difference with him in goal and when it’s Kepa is astronomical.

    Luca, Bedford

If you're going to win something you need a world class goalkeeper & Arsenal certainly have that with Raya, I still can't believe he didn't start the cup final when you see how good he is!

    On Kai Havertz's goal:

That what happens when you've got a brilliant goalkeeper that can keep it nil at that end in the hope you can produce some magic at the other end. And that's exactly what's just happened.

Fantastic from Martinelli to get the ball to Havertz. That run there from Martinelli and pass, and the touch is absolutely brilliant. And he just guides it low into the corner.

You keep it tight at the back in the hope that you can do that at the other end.

It could turn into a brilliant result for Arsenal and they've worked so hard for it.

It's a massive win. I thought 0-0 would be positive, but to nick it right at the end!

They had calmness but they also had that spine at the back, especially with David Raya, who was fantastic.

Massive win, real positivity, a calm controlled display from the team. Top job away from home.

What a brilliant goal, Martinelli finds that space all by himself with just sheer pace and sharpness inside the pitch and once he finds that space he doesn't do bad job of finding that ball. Havertz just strokes it calmly. Lovely worked goal from Arsenal.

  8. CLOSE!published at 21:54 BST 7 April

    Sporting 0-1 Arsenal

Sporting are now throwing everything forward to try and snatch an equaliser and a ball into the box just deflects out of Rafael Nel's reach.

Arsenal look to have pinched it!

Gabriel Martinelli plays a brilliant ball into the box and Kai Havertz controls before producing a composed finish under the goalkeeper.

They'd have been happy with the draw but will now be delighted with the win.

Luis Diaz drives forward and has Michael Olise to his right but he completely overhits the pass and it goes out of play.

Bayern have been much the better team - will they be left to rue all these missed opportunities come next week?

When Sporting get that flow and sense the opportunity to throw bodies forward, they go all out. It was a lovely sweeping move.

I'd hate to see how good the six other English right-backs ahead of Trent are, they must be ridiculous. What. A. Ball.

    Andrew, London

That the same TAA who can’t get near the England team ? Ridiculous oversight…

    Chris, Stoke-on-Trent

Worth pointing out after that stunning pass for the goal his next action was to give the ball away at the other end.

Sharp save is best way to describe that, great reaction from Raya, really good work by Suarez to get the ball in but Raya has to get the ball so quickly, real reaction.
