Man United are fortunate that they won their first three games. I think tonight's fixture against Juventus will result in three losses in a row... play- off round here we come, and not in the top-tier of the play -off draw, unfortunately.

Chelsea have been without first choice goalkeeper Hannah Hampton for around five weeks since she suffered a quad injury against Arsenal at the start of November.

The England number one has been named on the Blues' bench this evening. So, might we see her return to action tonight?

Manager Sonia Bompastor kept her cards close to her chest when asked on Tuesday, saying: "You'll have to wait until tomorrow night to have the answer on Hannah."

    • Arsenal have scored at least once in each of their 11 away games in the group stage or league phase in the Women’s Champions League.

What's interesting about this Champions League campaign is they're potentially going to backdoor their way to the top four here. What you saw against Lyon and Bayern Munich when they lost two of the first three but they found a way to win some of these games. And the comeback against Real Madrid ends up being a significant win for them because they won the game at home, and now it's down to Leuven.

When you look at the games for the other sides like Wolfsburg v Chelsea, there's a chance for them to do it which surely would've been the goal at the start of the season.

Juventus v Manchester United (20.00 GMT)

    Manchester United

    • Juventus have never won in six Women's Champions League games against English clubs.
    • Juve have won three games and scored 13 goals in the Champions League this season - only in 2021-22 have they recorded more in either metric in a single campaign.
    • Manchester United failed to land a single shot on target in their 0-3 defeat to OL Lyonnes last week.

  12. Who is definitely through - and definitely out?published at 19:34 GMT 17 December 2025

Guaranteed at least a play-off place: Barcelona, Lyon, Chelsea, Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris FC.

Already eliminated: St. Polten, FC Twente, Benfica, Roma and Paris Saint-Germain

  13. Who is on the cusp?published at 19:32 GMT 17 December 2025

Perhaps surprisingly, there are only three teams neither guaranteed a play-off place nor elimination - but there are only two knock-out places up for grabs.

Atletico Madrid are best placed to take one of those spots. They are through no matter what happens vs Lyon as long as Leuven and Valerenga don’t both win.

OH Leuven are up against reigning champions Arsenal, and will secure a play-off place with a win or if Valerenga lose.

Valerenga meanwhile are the team at risk - they must beat Bayern Munich and hope Leuven don’t win.

  14. Who is best placed for a top four spot?published at 19:30 GMT 17 December 2025

Barcelona and OL Lyonnes will both automatically qualify for the quarter-finals if they avoid defeat against Paris FC and Atletico Madrid respectively.

Chelsea are straight into the last eight if they beat Wolfsburg.

Meanwhile all the sides between Juventus in fourth and Paris in 10th could also bypass the play-offs with a win tonight, as long as other results go their way. Prepare to hear the phrase 'as it stands' A LOT tonight.

  15. What do Manchester United need?published at 19:28 GMT 17 December 2025

    Manchester United

Manchester United enjoyed a flying start to their debut campaign in Europe, winning their first three games against Valerenga, Atletico Madrid and Paris St-Germain while conceding just one goal. But their progress came to a shuddering halt on matchday four with a 5-2 hammering by Wolfsburg.

Marc Skinner's side then did "a lot of learning" in a 3-0 defeat by eight-time champions Lyon, a result which left United ninth in the table.

A tough final fixture awaits at Juventus, who are fourth - above Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on goal difference only.

United need to win and have a handful of other results go their way, so a top-four finish looks unlikely but victory could move them into the top-tier of the play-off draw.

Looking forward to tonight's game vs Juventus! Even if we lose tonight, it will give us great experience for the later rounds as we will somewhat know the playing style of Juventus better, a little bit like the Wolfsburg and Lyon games. Top four is a must! Let's go girls!

  17. 'We don't quite know what to expect' - Lerchpublished at 19:25 GMT 17 December 2025

    Wolfsburg v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

Wolfsburg coach Stephan Lerch says that his side "don't quite know what to expect" from Chelsea ahead of their league phase encounter on Wednesday.

The teams have met ten times previously in Europe's elite competition, with the She-Wolves winning six times and losing just twice.

In his pre-match press conference Lerch said: "We don't quite know what to expect, but we will be well-prepared.

"Chelsea are a big name and our past contests have always been intense battles. The club has progressed and developed immensely. Their squad has a lot of quality and the team is very flexible."

He added: "We need to stand up to them and cannot let them get into the game."

  18. What do Chelsea need?published at 19:23 GMT 17 December 2025

    Chelsea

Chelsea's latest quest to secure a maiden Champions League crown has been a mixed bag of results so far.

They made a stuttering start with a drab draw against Dutch champions Twente, but followed up by swatting Paris FC aside and hitting St Polten for six, before claiming an impressive 1-1 draw against old foes Barcelona.

A 6-0 victory over Roma moved Chelsea up to third ahead of their final league-phase match against two-time winners Wolfsburg.

A win against the German side will see Sonia Bompastor's Blues seal a quarter-final spot, but a draw could mean Juventus, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich push them out of the top four.

  19. 'Chelsea will have enough to keep a top four spot'published at 19:22 GMT 17 December 2025

    Wolfsburg v Chelsea (20:00 GMT)

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC Women's Football Weekly

The last couple of games Chelsea scored a number of goals. They look like they've got a bit more rhythm back, especially in the Champions League games. I think they'll be desperate to keep that top four position but it's a tough game for them coming up against Wolfsburg away from home.

Wolfsburg performed well, had maybe a disappointing result, but I feel like they're a very good team at home. Physicality -wise, when I saw them against Man Utd they dominated the game in terms of tackles, just putting themselves about, so I feel like that's going to be a tough one for them. But I think they have enough to stay in that top four.

  20. What do Arsenal need?published at 19:19 GMT 17 December 2025

    Arsenal

Holders Arsenal have found it tough going in the Champions League this season, with results and performances failing to match the increased expectations set by that glorious triumph over Barcelona in the final last May.

An opening night defeat by Lyon and a total collapse against Bayern Munich bookended an unconvincing away win over Benfica, before Alessia Russo inspired a vital fightback to secure three points against Real Madrid.

A 1-0 win over FC Twente secured safe passage to the knockouts, though Arsenal's failure to take more of their chances and boost their goal difference could end up costing them a place in the top four.

With Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid, Bayern and Wolfsburg above them, sixth-placed Arsenal need to win against Belgian outfit Leuven and hope other results go their way if they are to progress directly to the quarter-finals.
