I don’t know about anyone else but I find it almost impossible to watch corners being taken now. It seems that you can commit GBH but as long as the kick hasn’t been taken it’s all perfectly ok. Horrible to watch the absolute mess the game is at the at the moment.

    Robin, Coventry

These corners are ridiculous. Anyone who doesn't watch football very often must watch and wonder what on earth is going on...

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "A tough game, we knew it. We missed a little bit of energy and that is normal. They have 12 days to prepare for that game. A team that plays with that energy, the players upfront.

"We had three days, travelling and we fought. Second half we started really good, with the chance for Nico O'Reilly, the offside for Erling Haaland, which they [VAR] should review. After the situation, we didn't make the impact that we needed. We found a goal, but too late. Of course, it has happened. It is what it is.

"The players gave everything all the season, fighting for difficult circumstances until the end. We were close. On behalf of Man City, congratulations to Arsenal, Mikel and all the backroom staff on the Premier League that they deserve.

"He put a lot of effort and work. Congratulations to him."

On his future at the club: "I could say I have one year of contract - the conversation we have had for many years, always from my experience, when you [media] announce whatever you announce during a competition it is a bad, bad result.

"The first person I have to talk to is my chairman because we both decide - we will talk, it is simple as that and after that we will take the decision.

"Listen, I have one more year. I will not tell you here as I have to talk to my chairman, with my players and with my staff.

"I am the happiest man on the planet to be in this club. This club is extraordinary."

They didn't deserve anything tonight Tottenham. The way that they played in the first half, they huffed and puffed in the second half.

The last passage of play there sums it up. Mathys Tel was so poor. He had two opportunities at the far post in stoppage time. That was a wonderful opportunity to play the ball into a box full of yellow jerseys - and it ended up in the goalkeeper's arms.

Too many bad choices, too many wrong decisions.

The recent performances under Roberto de Zerbi were not emulated tonight. Chelsea didn't have to do too much. They were in control for most of it.

Spurs showed attacking intent in fits and starts but they didn't do enough tonight.

  5. Chelsea end winless runpublished at 22:11 BST 19 May

    FT: Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham

Chelsea ended a seven-game winless run in the Premier League against Tottenham.

They maintained an impressive record of just one home league defeat against Spurs since 1990. It is also six wins in a row against the north London side — Chelsea’s best such run since 2002.

Chelsea also remain unbeaten in their final home game of the season for 24 seasons.

Spurs, meanwhile, take their relegation battle with West Ham to the final day.

The moment was built for Maddison. That was the moment.

It was really poor execution. Up over the wall - but it didn't come down.

Some of the Chelsea fans are wandering away now that they feel the job is done.
