The long five-hour train journey from Manchester brings us to the south coast for this huge occasion at Bournemouth.

There are so many strands to pick out from tonight's game, namely THAT bombshell news breaking last night saying City boss Pep Guardiola is expected to step down at the end of the season.

It means this will be his last away game as manager and one his side need to win to take the Premier League title race to the final game of the season on Sunday.

But Bournemouth will be looking to be the party poopers here, aiming to extend their 16-game unbeaten run and claim the point needed to secure a brilliant place in Europe for next season.

This is manager Andoni Iraola's last home game in charge and he is sure to get a fantastic send-off come full-time.

I still believe that Kompany is the man for the job. He knows the club inside and out and he has the passion.

    David,

No one can replace Pep. I’m not optimistic about the future of Manchester City with Enzo Maresca, but Pep has done his time and certainly deserves a break.

    Jann

I would have gone for Andoni Iraola. Enzo Maresca failed at Chelsea, so why would he succeed at City? It feels like we better get used to losing next season.

    George

Failed at Chelsea? They won the Club World Cup last summer with Maresca in charge.

Pep has been magnificent. I don't think there is any better.

You can see what he has done as a coach, the way he has evolved his game from Barcelona to Bayern through to Man City.

That first season not winning anything and then developing the team, and we're on the third team now. It is incredible.

He will go down as an all-time great. Maybe the best we have ever seen, but Sir Alex Ferguson is slightly ahead of him in terms of trophies.

Pep Guardiola is a winner. He has dedicated his whole life to making Man City the great club they are.

He is born that way, he is a workaholic and everything he does is wrapped around that football club. The dedication to making them the best players and the best club is a huge statement as well.

He will be remembered as the best manager in Man City's history. This guy has done the whole lot.

When I joined Man City as a club, they were trying to catch up with the big boys. He is one of the big boys, he has transformed this football club to one of the biggest and best in world football.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola makes two changes from Saturday's FA Cup final win over Chelsea in - what could be - his penultimate change at the helm.

There is a surprise start for Mateo Kovacic, with the Croatian in a midfield three alongside captain Bernardo Silva and Rodri, while Gianluigi Donnarumma returns in goal.

Omar Marmoush and James Trafford drop to the bench, with Rayan Cherki also named as a substitute again.

Man City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O'Reilly, Kovacic, Rodri, Silva, Doku, Semenyo, Haaland.

  7. Maresca set to become next Man City managerpublished at 18:16 BST 19 May

Enzo Maresca is set to replace Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager before next season.

As BBC Sport reported on Monday, iconic City boss Guardiola is expected to leave the club following Sunday's game against Aston Villa at Etihad Stadium, their final match of the season.

Former Chelsea head coach Maresca has been identified as the leading contender to replace the legendary Spaniard for the 2026-27 season.

With City preparing for Guardiola's summer exit for more than six months, talks with Maresca are at an advanced stage.

The 46-year-old wants the job and is expected to be confirmed as Guardiola's successor in due course.

The Italian manager, who won the Club World Cup and Conference League while securing Champions League qualification during his only full season at Stamford Bridge, previously worked at City.

He was an assistant to Guardiola during City's Treble-winning 2022-23 campaign and played a key role in the club's academy prior to joining the first team.

  8. As it stands...published at 18:12 BST 19 May

Manchester City need to win at Bournemouth to take the title race to the final day, anything else and Arsenal are champions.

If the Cherries get at least a point they will be playing European football for the first time in their history next season.

Tottenham will secure Premier League survival if they beat Chelsea and that would relegate West Ham. The Hammers, with a much worse goal difference than Spurs, will be all but down if it is a draw at Stamford Bridge.

Eighth place gets you in the Conference League and Chelsea, who won that tournament last season, will jump from 10th to eighth with a win.

  11. What a night aheadpublished at 18:00 BST 19 May

It is a huge night of Premier League football.

By the end of the day we could know who the champions are, who are relegated, whether Bournemouth get into Europe for the first time and confirmation that a legendary manager is leaving English football.

Alternatively, none of those things could happen and it all goes down to the final day.

Whatever happens, it is going to be dramatic.
