Despite a disappointing domestic campaign, Borussia Dortmund are one game away from becoming European champions for the second time in their history.

Edin Terzic's side produced a superb team performance to beat Paris St-Germain 1-0 in yesterday's semi-final second leg to complete a 2-0 aggregate victory.

And defender Mats Hummels, who scored the only goal at Parc des Princes, says his side are confident of going all the way.

"Since the second match of the group stage, we've believed we can prevail - and I don't see why we shouldn't win at Wembley," he said.

"We were able to take so much pace out of the game and atmosphere out of the stadium. That was our recipe for success."

Kylian Mbappe would have dreamed of lifting the Champions League trophy for his final European act as a Paris St-Germain player. The reality was very different.

Instead, Mbappe’s final moment in the competition for PSG had him slipping over as he chased a lost cause, a through ball he was never going to reach, in a game which was by that point beyond the Parisians.

That slip in the final seconds of injury time came as Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 aggregate victory was safe and sealed following a stout defensive display full of energetic pressing, helped by a sizeable slice of luck.

And it was a slip that provides the final word in one of the most disappointing eras of modern European football - PSG’s star-studded but unsuccessful hunt for the Champions League.

If you missed it last night, Borussia Dortmund produced a fine away performance to beat Paris St-Germain and reach their first Champions League final since 2013.

Dortmund held a 1-0 advantage following the first leg and doubled their lead when Mats Hummels was left unmarked five yards out to head in from Julian Brandt's left-wing corner.

I felt for Thomas Tuchel a bit. We saw him before the game and he looked really relaxed.

This is one of the best games I have seen this season.

There was not a bad pass or touch, of course there was mistakes. But, in terms of the technical quality and tactical awareness of all the players they were outstanding.

I think many in the media made a lot of the mind games between Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane over the Bayern penalty last week. I'm sure Kane wasn't even slightly flustered by it, it is the way it is.

You would do that with any player you are going up against, you do not care. In the end they are not your mates when you are playing against them. You ask players and they will shrug their shoulders, you do whatever you have to do to win, to gain that advantage.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is aiming to reach his sixth Champions League final as a coach.

He was in three finals with AC Milan - 2003, 2005 and 2007 - before reaching the showpiece twice with Real Madrid in 2014 and 2022.

He already holds the record for more finals as a coach in the European Cup/Champions League than anyone else.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel could become the first coach to lead three different clubs into a Champions League final.

He did it previously with Paris St-Germain in 2020 - losing 1-0 to Bayern in the decider - then 12 months later with Chelsea.

Matthijs de Ligt comes in for Kim Min-jae in the centre of defence with Serge Gnabry and Aleksandar Pavlovic in the midfield in place of Leon Goretzka and Thomas Muller. Both Harry Kane and Eric Dier start for Thomas Tuchel's side.

You can look past Real Madrid slightly, they are favourites yes, but there are mad things that go in in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

In the last couple of years especially we have had some strange ties, a lot of them admittedly involving Real Madrid. They are favourites but it is not a certainty.

Real Madrid are seeking a 15th European title, while Bayern are chasing a seventh trophy in the competition.

Among those hoping to have their hands on the prize is England captain Harry Kane, who has never won a major trophy.

The striker has hit the ground running since joining Bayern from Spurs in the summer, scoring 44 goals in all competitions.

But Bayern lost their 11-year grip on the Bundesliga title, with Bayer Leverkusen taking it from them. Can they stay in Europe?

The big news for Bayern from the first leg is that Matthijs de Ligt returns to their defence, replacing Kim Min-jae, whose errors proved costly in that 2-2 draw.

England captain Harry Kane leads the line up front, while Eric Dier partners De Ligt in defence.
