Spurs haven’t done too badly in the first half, playing against Nottm Forest and the referee makes it a little bit more difficult. Some of the referee's decisions have been shocking. It seems strange that he hasn’t seen any fouls made by Forest, because there were lots of them.

West Ham may have been unsettled by the last-minute change of formation, but no excuse for leaving McGinn with so much room. And as for Hermansen, it is like defending every corner without a keeper.

  4. 'This game is important and we didn't want to lose'published at 15:18 GMT 22 March

    FT: Newcastle 1-2 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris, speaking to Sky Sports on how they got the win: "Through our identity. We didn't start well with an early mistake. We stayed composed, well-aligned with what we wanted to do. It's a tough place, they are intense with their crowd but the team reacted well. We were emotional at half-time because it matters, this game is important and we didn't want to lose. We stayed together, pushed together and the second half was good for that. We suffered at times but we enjoyed as well some opportunities and played good football."

On the emotion: "It was about the whole event. We want to win and to be proud of our club. I really appreciated the second half, even the way the team reacted after the goal conceded, stay calm, stay composed and seize your opportunity when it comes."

On Brian Brobbey: "He is getting better day after day. He is impressive. We needed more time as a team to find the right connections. The way we can use his strength especially. Now he is becoming a big threat and it's big for the club."

On what he was trying to achieve by playing out from the back for the Newcastle goal: "I don't know. You can make mistakes. It's a hard phase when we start from a dead ball. I know the intention, but the execution wasn't good."

On what this result does for the team going forward: "We started this game with six or seven players injured. It means the others stepped up and it shows the quality of the group. Today they did really well, I am proud and really pleased."

On the reported abuse from the crowd towards Lutsharel Geertruida: "I don't really know what happened, but it's not acceptable. The referee acted well because he reported the problem which is the first step. He [Geertruida] seems ok, but we will see."

How do Tottenham respond? A huge 45 minutes, not just in the season, but potentially their history.

  6. 'Painful, tough afternoon'published at 15:17 GMT 22 March

    FT: Newcastle 1-2 Sunderland

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "Painful, tough afternoon for us. Positive start, I thought when we scored we would go on and dominate but we never capitalised on that momentum. The first half fizzed out and second half we were second best. I didn't like our performance. Technically we were poor. The defeat is harsh on us but we didn't play well enough."

On if the fixture pile-up played a part: 'I'm reluctant to use that as an excuse. Logic would tell you yes, but we have to do better. We have to really look at ourselves and make sure we learn from all the mistakes we have made and we made a few today. This has happened before, it isn't a one off."

On Thiaw's disallowed goal: "These are big momentum swingers for us. We wanted a second goal, we couldn't find it. Sunderland grew into the game. We needed to defend with our lives and defend better than we did."

On his message to players: "We have some massive games to come. Week to week we are able to train and get that freshness back. We have had to learn a lot. It's going to need a lot of character to respond. We never give up, we always go for what we can."

On the match being paused for alleged racist abuse from the crowd: "We don't condone any form of racism and it's something the club will investigate."

  7. 'It means a lot'published at 15:16 GMT 22 March

    FT: Newcastle 1-2 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland's match winner Brian Brobbey , speaking to Sky Sports: "You saw second half everybody was better, everybody gave everything for each other. After the first goal everyone ran for each other, I'm really happy for the win."

On what it meant to score the winning goal in front of the travelling Sunderland fans: "A lot, the fans are always with us. It means a lot."

It’s been frantic, hasn’t it? You can’t fault the attitude of the Tottenham players and the way that they have set about this game. They have closed down with intensity, with passion, they have worked extremely hard, but there is a little bit of quality that lacks. Especially, when they get into the final third.

  9. 'Second half was nearly perfect'published at 15:14 GMT 22 March

    FT: Newcastle 1-2 Sunderland

    Sunderland

Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka , speaking to Sky Sports: "If you want to play these games you need personality. It's not easy to play here. We knew before the game what it means to come here to take something or to win. If you see all the game, three points are deserved."

On recovering from the early Newcastle goal: "We didn't find solutions in the beginning. It's part of the game, a part of our journey. We spoke at half-time about things, we changed and second half was nearly perfect."

On what the win says about Sunderland: "We need to step up. Some players didn't have a lot of minutes. We are a team, it's not just the first 11. Today was a great win for all the team. After three defeats in a row, today was a very important three points. Now we go to the national team and come back for the last run."

Spurs been the better team but lacking creativity (with the exception of Tel). How £60m Xavi Simons is on the bench after his performance midweek is beyond me…

  12. 'Williams' delivery was absolutely on point'published at 15:11 GMT 22 March

    HT: Tottenham 0-1 Nottingham Forest

    Paul Robinson

It's such a simple set play. We see all these intricate set plays with movement in the box. Set plays are all about the delivery, and Neco Williams' delivery was absolutely on point. A simple task for Igor Jesus, with a free header to put Nottingham Forest ahead.

  13. 'It's a real positive performance from Villa'published at 15:09 GMT 22 March

HT: Aston Villa 1-0 West Ham

    Luke Chambers
Former Premier League defender on 5 Sports Extra at Villa Park

A massive first half of football from Aston Villa, especially having lost their last three in a row. It could easily be two, three or maybe four up with the chances they have had. It's a real positive performance from them.

West Ham have got a lot of work to do, lots of questions to be answered in that dressing room. They started relatively brightly but it's been all Aston Villa for the rest of the first half.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:06 GMT 22 March

    Tottenham 0-1 Nottingham Forest

The whistle goes for half time and it is Nottingham Forest who have the slender advantage.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:05 GMT 22 March

    Aston Villa 1-0 West Ham

The hosts deservedly lead heading into the break. Their only gripe will be that they are only one goal ahead in a match they have totally dominated.

  17. VAR

Video Assistant Referee - no penaltypublished at 15:05 GMT 22 March

    Tottenham 0-1 Nottingham Forest

It is a quick check by VAR and the decision is no penalty. Tottenham haven't had one all season.

  18. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 15:05 GMT 22 March

    Tottenham 0-1 Nottingham Forest

Superb strike by Mathys Tel from outside the box that is tipped onto the woodwork by Matz Sels. Cristian Romero then goes down inside the box under a challenge, no penalty awarded but it will be checked...

  19. Postpublished at 15:05 GMT 22 March

Valentin Castellanos wins a corner from Pau Torres. So a chance for West Ham to load the Aston Villa penalty area but the delivery is flat and does not beat the first man. How poor is that!

Absolutely enormous chance to get a free header, four yards from goal on target. It's another chance for Villa that goes begging and you start to think, how many can you miss?
