    Leicester v Hull (19:45 BST)

Don't be surprised if Leicester stave off relegation tonight. My team seem to like giving points to the teams around the bottom this season and look like they won't be in the play-offs

    Gary, Hull

Hull City have been in the top six for most of the season but their performances have not warranted a play-off spot. I think they'll fail with potentially another seventh-place finish. Southampton (for example) would quickly finish our season should we actually make a play-off spot.

    Craig, Hull

The Tigers finished seventh in 2023-24 under Liam Rosenior, missing out on the top six by three points. They are one point away from matching their total from that campaign.

  3. Tigers to strike final blow for Foxes?published at 19:39 BST 21 April

    Leicester v Hull (19:45 BST)

How have Leicester City arrived at this point? Not sure we have enough printing paper (or the digital equivalent) to cover that entire topic off right now - though you can read in further depth about their turmoil here.

In a nutshell, this is the purest meaning of an absolute must-win for the Premier League champions of 10 years ago to have any chance whatsoever of avoiding relegation to League One.

It's a scenario that would have seemed inconceivable when the Foxes pulled off the most unlikely top-flight title win in recent history.

But a six-point deduction for breaching financial rules and a woeful run of one win in 17 games (D7 L9) has left them on the brink of back-to-back relegations.

Gary Rowett’s side are eight points adrift of safety with just three games remaining and will be down if they don’t win tonight against a Hull City side with serious play-off aspirations.

The Tigers are sixth, two points ahead of seventh-placed Wrexham, and need victory to guarantee they keep their play-off hopes in their own hands, though Sergej Jakirovic's side need to improve on their recent run of four games without victory (D3 L1).

After securing their first promotion to the top-flight in 59 years, Coventry City will aim to seal the Championship title by beating Portsmouth tonight.

Despite drawing their past three games, the Sky Blues are 10 points clear of second-placed Ipswich with the Tractor Boys having four games remaining.

The city centre was lit-up in sky blue following Friday's late leveller at Blackburn which ensured a return to the Premier League after 25-years, and even inspired one couple to name their baby after goalscorer Bobby Thomas.

Pompey head north on the back of three straight wins, and clean sheets, against Middlesbrough, Ipswich and Leicester, which have lifted them seven points clear of the relegation zone with three games to play.

John Mousinho's side would be safe, even with a defeat, should Oxford United lose at home to Wrexham so it could yet be a double celebration at the CBS Arena.

    Stoke v Millwall (19:45 BST)

Millwall have the opportunity to go back second and into the automatic promotion places tonight, with Ipswich not in action until tomorrow evening, and will do so if they pick up even just a point at Stoke City.

The Lions will be pinpointing it as a fixture to get all three though, currently unbeaten away from The Den in their last seven league matches, winning five of them, and they face a Stoke City side who could well be 'on the beach right now' - if they weren't actually in the West Midlands.

Millwall head coach Alex Neil returns to the Potteries after a relatively unsuccessful 15-month stint between 2022 and 2023 as Stoke boss and has won six of his last seven league matches against his old club.

Stoke are unbeaten at home since the beginning of February (W3 D3), but their 2-0 victory over already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday is their only win in their past five Championship matches.

The Potters went down 2-0 at Wrexham at the weekend, conceding twice in in as many minutes, but a win tonight could see them climb from 17th up to 10th with the Championship mid-table remaining incredibly tight.

Saints fan here. Realistically, we only need a point to secure a play-off slot, but I'm hoping we can continue our blistering form and put Bristol City to the sword. Automatic promotion is probably beyond us.

    Jim, Epsom

As a Saints fan you get used to things being a bit up and down: Second-worst team in Premier League history, only team to lose 9-0 twice, relegation, looking at second relegation in two seasons... now, out of seemingly nowhere, chance of automatic promotion and an FA Cup semi-final!

Southampton will seek to continue their late push for automatic promotion when they welcome Bristol City.

The Saints have won seven Championship games on the bounce and are unbeaten in their past 16 games (W13 D3) and have an FA Cup semi-final against Man City to look forward to on Saturday (17:15 BST).

Tonda Eckert's side were 15th - 10 points adrift of the play-offs and 16 points behind second - when they last lost against Hull City on 17 January.

They are now fourth - eight points clear of Wrexham in seventh and just one point behind second-placed Ipswich, who have a game in hand - having picked up five more points than any other team in that time.

Visitors Bristol City suffered their first defeat since Roy Hodgson took over last time out, losing 4-2 to Norwich following two wins and a draw under the former England manager.

The Robins now cannot make the play-offs or be relegated this season but they have a fine record against Saints, winning six of the past seven meetings.

You seem to really think Oxford are doomed. Two wins (one against Sheffield Wednesday) and all we need is to better Blackburn's result on the final day and we are safe (assuming they don't win away at Sheffield United).

    Adam, Dorset

A very fair point, Adam, but the bracketed part could be the fly in the ointment here given how erratic the Blades are. That final game of the season is also way at Millwall who could well be going for automatic promotion...

Wrexham defender Callum Doyle will remember his side’s meeting with Oxford United earlier this season better than most – he was show a straight red card.

Doyle, 22, was sent-off in the second half of the game at the Stok Cae Ras in October, which Wrexham won 1-0.

But sending off proved to be a blessing and a turning point for the Doyle’s season.

"It's one of those moments that it's a bad moment," Doyle said.

"But, in the grand scheme of things it's not so bad of how I've changed my attitude towards training.

"And it's been good for me since that point."

"At the start it wasn't the best and at the time I was a bit down.

"But since then I think I've improved a lot and I think everyone can see around the building that my mood's changed."

Doyle has made a total of 36 appearances in all competitions for Wrexham and was named in the Championship team of the season at the EFL awards.

"It's a massive honour," said Doyle, who joined Wrexham for the current season from Manchester City.

"There's a lot of talent in this league, but I feel really honoured to be named in the team of the season.

    "So, I'm very grateful."

Sorry if we are overusing this phrase tonight... but what a big game this is at the Kassam Stadium.

Oxford United's situation at the bottom of the Championship is desperate, while Wrexham are seventh and hunting down a play-off spot.

The U's are five points adrift of safety with three games to play but could cut that gap to two with a win and will have played the same number of matches as Blackburn in 21st by the end of the night.

Matt Bloomfield's side have won just one of their past six games (D3 L2), though Saturday's defeat at Derby was just their second loss in nine matches (W4 D3).

The Red Dragons are seeking an unprecedented fourth consecutive promotion since rising through the divisions after winning the National League in 2023.

Wrexham ended a three-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Stoke at the weekend and are within two points of Hull in sixth.

  11. All set for Carrow Road showdownpublished at 19:22 BST 21 April

    Norwich v Derby (19:45 BST)

Norwich welcome Derby to Carrow Road for a game with huge play-off implications.

The Canaries remained in contention for a top-six finish, just, after Saturday's thumping 4-2 win at Bristol City.

Philippe Clement's men are ninth, eight points behind Hull City in the final play-off spot, with three games to play.

Derby are far better placed, sat eighth, only three points behind the Tigers, with a superior goal difference, after beating Oxford United 1-0 at Pride Park on Saturday.

The Rams have also taken 10 points from their past four visits to Carrow Road and are seeking their first double over the Canaries in 17 years, though they have lost five of their past six away games.

  12. Will Baggies complete the boing to safety?published at 19:19 BST 21 April

West Brom v Watford (19:45 BST)

Things were looking rather bleak for West Bromwich Albion when a 1-1 draw with Southampton on 11 March extended their winless run to 13 games and left them 23rd in the Championship, a point adrift of safety.

But three wins and three draws since then has lifted the Baggies to 20th and five points clear of the drop zone.

That's not to say Albion are where they want to be right now. But victory tonight will confirm their Championship status for another season - something the Hawthorns faithful would have almost certainly settled for six weeks ago.

This is all providing they are not hit with a points deduction for breaching financial rules, which could change the final standings.

As it stands, James Morrison has almost completed the job that was asked of him when Eric Ramsay's short-lived spell as boss came to an end and his side are unbeaten in eight (W3 D5).

Standing in their way tonight are a Watford side effectively with nothing to play for with the play-offs out of reach and no chance of going down - and the Hornets arrive after two straight defeats and are without a win in five (D2 L3).

Swansea City striker Zan Vipotink leads the race for the Championship golden boot - five out in front of Coventry's Haji Wright - as his side head to West London to face Queens Park Rangers in a match which has all the hallmarks of an end of season dead rubber.

He may have to wait to add to his 21 Championship goals this season until the latter stages tonight, however, as the Slovenian striker starts on the bench at Loftus Road with Adam Idah leading the line in one of four changes from Saturday by head coach Vitor Matos who looks to reshuffle during a three-game week.

These two sides are separated by just a point and are two of eight clubs clustered together within three points of each other in mid-table.

The Swans are hunting their first back-to-back league away wins of the season after Vipotnik struck in their 1-0 win at Leicester last time out on the road but today face a QPR side who beat them in South Wales by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture back in October.

The R's, who make five changes of their own, are looking for their first league double over Swansea since 1979-80 and will hope for an improvement on their first-half showing at Millwall on Saturday which made boss Julien Stephan feel the need to make four substitutions at half-time.

With Sheffield Wednesday long gone, these are the six sides remaining in the Championship relegation battle.

The objective is pretty clear for Leicester City - win their final three games or they are down. Back-to-back relegations for the Foxes will be confirmed tonight if they fail to beat Hull City.

Oxford need at least two wins from their three remaining matches, or they will join Leicester and the Owls in the third tier. Failure to win tonight would leave a mountain to climb and even more favours very much needed for the U's.

Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion could both clinch survival tonight if results go their way, while Charlton and Blackburn are not in action until tomorrow night and will no doubt be watching on anxiously.

The celebrations from securing promotion on Friday night have barely finished but Coventry have the chance to start a new party by sealing the Championship title tonight with a win over Portsmouth.

It is likely to be a nervy evening in the race for the second automatic promotion spot, not least for Ipswich, who do not play Charlton until tomorrow.

Town reclaimed second spot on Sunday thanks to a late 2-2 draw at home to Middlesbrough but could be as low as fourth by bedtime as Millwall seek to continue their fine away record at lowly Stoke while red-hot Southampton will hope for a perfect Wembley send-off as they welcome Bristol City to St Mary's.

Hull City will seek to strengthen their grip on a play-off spot as they head to relegation battling Leicester while Wrexham will aim to capitalise on any slip-ups as they visit another struggler in Oxford United.

Derby will seek to keep their own top-six hopes alive at Norwich, who are not out of the equation just yet, but will need a win tonight and plenty of snookers elsewhere to make it.

It is a huge night at both ends of the Championship table, so here is a quick look at what may be decided once and for all in the next few hours.

    • Coventry City will win the Championship title if they beat Portsmouth.
    • Leicester City will be relegated if they fail to beat Hull City.
    • Millwall will secure a play-off place if they avoid defeat at Stoke City - or if Wrexham fail to beat Oxford.
    • Southampton will secure a play-off place if they beat Bristol City - or if Wrexham fail to beat Oxford.
    • Portsmouth will be safe from relegation if they match or better Oxford's result against Wrexham.
    • West Bromwich Albion will be safe from relegation if they beat Watford and Oxford fail to win against Wrexham (which could of course change if the Baggies are hit with a points deduction).
    • Norwich City will no longer be able to reach the play-offs if they fail to win against Derby. Even if the Canaries do win, they need Hull to either lose or draw to stay in the race.

    Good evening.

Is Tuesday the day of reckoning, or just another day of wondering? All will become clear over the next three hours or so.

Eleven days away from the 10-year anniversary of their Premier League triumph, Leicester City will be relegated to the third tier tonight unless they beat Hull City - and even that might not save them for long.

Oxford United are in desperate need of a victory to avoid joining the Foxes and Sheffield Wednesday through the trap door to League One, while at the other end Coventry can secure the title with three points tonight and Millwall and Southampton can seal play-off spots, though both have loftier ambitions in the final 11 days of the season.

Grab something to settle the nerves and strap in, this is sure to be a wild night in the world's most unpredictable football division.
