Celtic manager Martin O'Neill tells BBC Sportsound about new signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: "I'm pretty well delighted with it.

"Hopefully he brings a little bit of experience when he gets himself up to speed, hopefully he can make an impact on the field. He looks pretty fit.

"He's up for the challenge, which is good. He's played out in Turkey under a number of managers. Overall, it's great to have him. If he's got that hunger, and I think he does, then that would be an asset to us.

"There's competition for places. We've made a couple of changes today to reflect that. I feel as if the squad is better than it was 10 or 15 days ago.

"We had bids in for certain players that I felt would, in terms of permanency, help the new manager. It didn't materialise. We've set out here to improve the squad and I think we've done that."

This disco lights are on at Celtic Park and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged from the tunnel to say hello to the home fans.

After a quick wave he heads back down the tunnel and dishes out high-fives to his new team-mates, who are about to walk out on to the pitch.

Elgin City manager Allan Hale tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we were excellent in the second half. I thought we scored some really good goals. It's just really disappointing that we lost the game, I thought we deserved to take it to extra time at least.

"We've had two really good cup runs, and we left everything out on that pitch today. Partick Thistle are a really good team, really good players, but I think we'll get plaudits for playing how we did. I'm really proud of the players today.

"It typifies what this Elgin team are all about, and the mentality in the squad. We're not beaten until the referee blows the final whistle. It's just disappointing we couldn't get one more chance.

"The players should be really proud of themselves, and I'm sure it won't just be the Elgin fans who will be full of admiration for us. But we wish Thistle all the best for the remainder of the cup and in the league season."

Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon tells BBC Scotland: "I've had it from everyone that the performance wasn't great - I don't care.

"It's tense out there, there's a lot riding on it for the club and players. It was difficult to break Kelty down first half but second half we totally dominated. We got what we deserved. I'm absolutely over the moon.

"I've been in this rodeo many times and cup games are difficult. Partick Thistle had the late goal up at Elgin. St Mirren won in extra time last night. Teams want this. We're in the last eight and it's a magnificent effort from everyone at the club.

"We love Chris [Kane] and I needed him today. He's a bonafide centre-forward. He scores important goals for the club. Players like him are worth their weight in gold."

Fellow recent recruit Benjamin Arthur isn't in the squad. This one obviously comes too soon for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain too.

Dundee have former Rangers winger Scott Wright on their bench. I'm sure he'll get a warm welcome if he comes on.

There could be a fair few empty seats at Celtic Park today. Supporters' groups have been attempting to plan a boycott for this match.

Manager Martin O'Neill described the prospect of meetings between the Celtic board and fans' groups as "a big step forward" and hopes a "middle ground" can be found to end the acrimony around the club.

Interim chairman Brian Wilson also called for "unity behind the team" and revealed plans for talks "within the next week or so".

O'Neill would like those discussions to take place before the first leg of the Europa League play-off at home to Stuttgart on 19 February.

"There has to be a middle ground somewhere along the way," he said.

"Let's find out what the ailments are and see if we can rectify them because, going forward, the club will trip itself up."

Referring to negativity from the stands and "things being shouted across the pitch", O'Neill said: "Eventually it's debilitating and it does effect people."

Chris Kane's double gave Dunfermline Athletic victory over local rivals Kelty Hearts and sealed their place in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals for the first time in 17 years.

The striker, who won the cup with St Johnstone in 2021, already thought he had put Dunfermline ahead about 15 minutes prior to his goal.

One-on-one, he rattled a shot off the underside of the bar but the ball bounced up and down on the goal-line twice before being cleared by a Kelty defender.

However, the half-time substitute put his disappointment behind him to stoop down and header a Shea Kearney cross at the back stick and give Dunfermline a deserved lead.

He got his second late on when Josh Cooper jinked inside from the right and drilled a cross into the box, with Kane helping steer it home.

Kelty have a free-kick, but Billy Terrell comfortably punches away. This one rather dwindling to a close.

Ben Stanway's late finish sends Thistle into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals after a five-goal thriller at Borough Briggs.

Elgin's Ryan Sargent cancelled out both Robbie Crawford's opener and Tony Watt's penalty to keep it level for large periods of the game, but a neat finish from Stanway means the Firhill side advance.
