Unfortunately for Blues this is scrappy, and they're losing the scrap at the moment.

Scunthorpe have been aggressive all over the pitch. Dallas and Cardwell are finding it really hard to get in the game, and they're losing the battle with the two centre-halves. The Blues have really struggled to get their passing game going.

Two additional minutes added to this first half.

Might be good for both teams to head into the tunnel. Calm things down a bit as the referee has a chat with the players over a delayed restart.

Big moment for Southend!

They finally find some reprieve from Scunthorpe's attacks to mount one of their own.

It's worked into the box well and flicked along to Keenan Appiah-Forson, who takes it on the volley for a shot on target.

Iron keeper Louis Jones does well to deny the Southend man though and keeps his sheet clean.

Southend's Harry Taylor gets in trouble in a clash over a throw-in and he's hot under the collar as he gets punished with a yellow card.

The cautions are raining in now.

Emotions are running high, indeed.

He (Maher) looks a bit frustrated. He's throwing his hands up in the air. He obviously didn't think that was a foul against his team, and he's done that on a fair few occassions.

Obviously a bit of frustration is coming through, and probably rightly so. Scunthorpe are dominating this game.

Southend's Andy Dallas drives up field with the ball but while he's nowhere near causing any trouble yet, Branden Horton makes a rash challenge to try and stop him, earning himself a caution for his over-eagerness.

Tempers are boiling over already.

Kevin Maher has just been shown a yellow card for dissent. He doesn't look overly pleased about it either.

Don't imagine he's too pleased about anything he's seen so far this evening, to be fair.

Southend earn a free-kick and as it soars into the air, it looks like it might have too much on it.

But no, it's just about right for Keenan Appiah-Forson at the back post. He can't guide it into the net but the attack isn't over as he keeps possession on the left.

He needs support that never comes though and eventually Scunthorpe steal the ball away.

A long forward ball from Gus Scott-Morriss ends up sending Scunthorpe on the attack.

The ball is worked into Danny Whitehall, who makes an attempt on goal but sees it blocked before it can test the keeper.

Good stuff from the Southend defence but the visitors really need to find a way into this game or risk giving their opponents a cushion.

What's happened is with Scunthorpe getting the early goal, it's settled them down, given them a bit of confidence, put a spring in their step.

What Southend have to do is settle down themselves, and work their way back into this game.

Southend spend far too long bouncing the ball around in their own final third until a loose pass is sent towards Callum Roberts.

The defenders try crowding him out and succeed, earning themselves a free-kick much to the Scunthorpe scorer's dismay.

Alarm bells for the visitors though.

Patrick Jones cuts inside to get into a great position in the middle of the box, but his effort lacks any teeth and is easy for Shrimpers stopper Collin Andeng-Ndi to dive down and collect.

You have to say its great anticipation by the lad, Roberts. He's picked up the ball, worked it out, had another touch, and then drilled a great shot across the keeper. It's a super finish. And even though the Blues have settled in better, that's a great finish.

Southend try to cut out the midfield battle by sending a nice ball forward to Harry Cardwell.

He's on to it with just the keeper ahead of him but Iron defender Jean Belehouan does well to close him down and prevent an attempt at goal.

What a great finish. All started with Danny Whitehall having that physical presence, and Callum Roberts running the other side and all of a sudden space opened up to him. Smashed it, hard and low - goalkeeper didn't have a chance!

Callum Roberts has got Southend worried.

He's blasting around the defence on the right flank but eventually runs himself into a dead end with black shirts swarming him.

Scunthorpe look like they are enjoying this. Their fans certainly are.

Southend have had a few early punts into the box but so far Scunthorpe's defences have held firm.

There's a brilliant atmosphere at the Attis as the sun sets.

Both sets of fans are up for this. You can only hope this match is going to deliver something just as energetic.

I think its very interesting having Jack Bridge on the bench. He's one of the players who, for me, summarises the momentum that Southend are building.

A lot of Jack Bridge's impact has been in the FA Trophy, but he's managed to work himself into more of the National league action. Knowing he's there, there'll be that consistency across the 90 minutes, extra time and maybe penalties.

Scunny Bunny's demonstrated his dance moves and the players are done with their preparations.
