  1. 'People in Girona are so happy with him' - Guardiola on Reis loanpublished at 13:00 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

A final word from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on the future of defender Vitor Reis, who has spent the season on loan at Girona: "The reason why he went there is because maybe at his age he didn't have many options to play here. He's grown up as a player. He's faced the best strikers in Spain and that's not easy to deal with. People in Girona are so happy with him. We will make a decision on his future at the end of the season."

Pep Guardiola on whether there is any update on John Stones' future at Manchester City: "No. The only thing I can say is he is back training with us and this is the best news."

The 31-year-old England centre-back is out of contract in the summer.

Stones has endured another injury-interrupted campaign, making just 19 appearances this season and featuring in only three games since November.

  3. 'Margins define many things'published at 12:51 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on his side's mentality: "The body language has been in the right place for many, many months. Every mistake the one player feels it is my mistake, so we blame few and try to move on to the next.

"I know what I am talking about because when you win these types of games, you talk about mentality. I said it after the game on Sunday, if [Kai] Havertz scored the header in the last minute when we didn't defend the cross, what would our mentality be? What would it be?

"I know perfectly that it would be 'they don't have composure, they are not an experienced team'. It is the same.

"People talk about Arsenal hitting the post twice, we hit the post too. The chances they had, we had too. The game was so tight. The margins define many, many things."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on the recent performances of Bernardo Silva and Rodri: "In the last games, both of them have been really important. Both of them are experienced and both of them have a huge personality on the team - like man-marking.

"They are not young guys any more, they are experienced guys who have played a lot of these types of games and know how they must be played.

    "They were exceptional [against Arsenal].

"We cannot forget we have been 16/17 months without Rodri...the success belongs to the team, but a huge, massive part depends on the players that you have."

Pep Guardiola on the physiological aspects of the title race: "Both teams know what happened in the past. Both teams know they cannot lose or drop points. It will be difficult to recover. And our calendar is so demanding, especially when we have a game coming up against an opponent [Everton] that is really, really tough.

"It is more difficult [for the side chasing], mentally and physically. What happened after Arsenal, we have to go to Burnley and perform at the level we have to do."

Missing Rodri is never good, but if we can't beat Burnley (no disrespect) with our depth then we don't deserve a title race. Hopefully he's back for the later run-in, we'll need him in midfield against fantastic teams like Brentford, Bournemouth, Everton and Villa.

Pep Guardiola on reaction to Manchester City's win over Arsenal: "We talked immediately after the game, do not lose the focus. Arsenal is top of the league and right now, they would be the champions.

"The recovery is much less than the last two weeks. It's just two days. That is why I have to see how people are recovering.

"It's a demanding game we had, both emotionally and physically. But at the same time, we have six games left. We know exactly what is going to happen, when we get the result or if we don't get the result."

  14. Pundits split on title racepublished at 12:28 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

Match of the Day pundits Wayne Rooney and Danny Murphy were asked on Sunday for their own title predictions.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Murphy said City would secure the title on goal difference, while former Manchester United forward Rooney picked Arsenal as favourites, saying he expects City to drop points at his old club Everton...

This Flourish post cannot be displayed in your browser. Please enable Javascript or try a different browser.

The experts on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club were equally divided.

Ex-Tottenham winger Andros Townsend said: "I think Man City win it but I don't think both teams go flawless between now and the end of the season. Arsenal have two massive Champions League games coming up. Their focus is going to have to be there. And then they have got West Ham away, who are fighting for their lives, Fulham, who are doing well, and Crystal Palace on the last day of the season at Selhurst Park - that's not an easy place to go to. I think Arsenal will drop [more] points. I am going City."

Chris Sutton, a former Premier League winner with Blackburn, disagrees: "I think all of their [Arsenal's] games are winnable. People look at West Ham, who are scrapping and have improved, but I think Arsenal have got pretty generous fixtures. I look at City and you look at Everton away and Bournemouth away, they are difficult fixtures."

  15. Man City run-in tougher than Arsenal's - Optapublished at 12:27 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Pep Guardiola described his side's "horrible calendar".

Four of their final six games are against teams in the top half of the table - Aston Villa, Brentford, Bournemouth and Everton - who are all battling to qualify for Europe next season.

They also have to fit in an FA Cup semi-final against Championship side Southampton and potentially an FA Cup final, which will be played a week before the end of the season.

That is why the Opta supercomputer still only rates City's chances of winning the title at 27%.

Arsenal are being given a 73% chance of winning a first title since 2004 because their run-in is considered to be easier, with all five of their matches against teams in the bottom half, but the Gunners do have the small matter of a Champions League semi-final to play, which could complicate matters.

Manchester City's remaining games, in all competitions:

    • Burnley (a) - 22 April
    • Southampton - 25 April (FA Cup semi-final)
    • Everton (a) - 4 May
    • Brentford (h) - 9 May
    • FA Cup final? - 16 May
    • Bournemouth (a) - 17 May
    • Aston Villa (h) - 24 May
    • Crystal Palace (h) - TBC

Manchester City are not top of the league - Guardiola reacts to victory against Arsenal

Pep Guardiola has, of course, walked this path many times before.

The Spaniard has won six Premier League titles in his eight seasons at Manchester City, while Arsenal have finished runners-up - twice to City and once to Liverpool - over the past three campaigns.

So he was not about to declare the race won after City's 2-1 victory over the Gunners on Sunday.

"Still we hope," he told the BBC. "But the truth is that we had a horrible calendar and we are not top of the league.

"So far they [Arsenal] are the best team in England but we extend the chance to fight until the end. They are so competitive, we know that. But at the same time, we are too.

"The table speaks for itself. They have been the best. Congratulations to the guys, but don't lose the focus."

  17. Man City have Arsenal in their sightspublished at 12:22 BST 21 April

Burnley v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

Talk about timing, Manchester City will go top of the Premier League table for the first time since the first week of the season if they win at relegation candidates Burnley on Wednesday.

In total, City have been top for just six days this season, compared to Arsenal's 206 days at the Premier League summit.

A 1-0 win at Turf Moor would see City draw level with the Gunners on points (70) and goal difference (+37) after 33 games played, but move above them on goals scored - 66 compared to Arsenal's 63.

Should City take an early lead at Burnley, the assumption is that they will go for the jugular, attempting to pile on the goals to boost their goal difference.

Remember, if both Arsenal and City win every game between now and the end of the season then the title will be decided in this order:

    • Goal difference
    • Goals scored
    • Head-to-head record - City hold the advantage, having won 2-1 at home and drawn 1-1 at Emirates Stadium
Premier League top six - Arsenal 70 pts, Man City 67, Man Utd 58, Aston Villa 58, Liverpool 55, Chelsea 48

  19. 'There were many jokes about Rutter goal'published at 12:21 BST 21 April

Bournemouth v Leeds (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Leeds United

A final word, for now, from Leeds manager Daniel Farke on former player Georgino Rutter's late equaliser for Brighton against relegation rivals Tottenham: "Yes there were many jokes. I worked a whole year with him and waited a whole year for such a finish from him!

"We are all happy for Georgi because he's an unbelievable player. Sometimes you have to accept that a player develops a bit quicker than we were able to do couple of years ago.

"You could say he has helped our position in the relegation a little bit but I don’t pay too much attention to the other games. I don't celebrate goals of other teams. I just celebrate Leeds goals, but I am always happy if Georgi scores a goal if it’s not a goal against Leeds.”

  20. 'I'd back Rose to adapt to Premier League'published at 12:19 BST 21 April

Bournemouth v Leeds (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Leeds United

More from Daniel Farke on the challenges Marco Rose could face while settling into the Premier League: “It was a bit different for me because I came as a relatively unknown young manager at Norwich. I think I was the first non-British manager there.

"The group was a bit too old, too expensive and under huge financial pressure. No one really knew me and it was difficult because you didn't have a CV before.

"It’s different, Marco comes with a big reputation and he has managed some big clubs in Germany. He is well known. He takes over a club with stability and has been doing better year on year.

"It is difficult to adapt in terms of not being a native speaker. It is the same for the players even if you are a top player who has played abroad. It's difficult to adapt to British football - you have to be smart and adapt quick but I would always back Marco to do this.

"I'm pretty sure he's a good choice and will be successful, but it's not easy.”
