Brilliant all round. Brilliant attacking play and give-and-go by Sunderland. But equally brilliant defending by Ruben Dias.

Vital block from Ruben Dias after a lovely give and go between Eliezer Mayenda and Trai Hume.

Sunderland have settled after a bit of a wobbly start.

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "They [Crystal Palace] like to be compact, low block, we know first half they would come for the game more, then after they score 10 men behind the ball.

"But we need to be patient, of course Tom Cairney gave us more quality in terms of decision, passing, making the ball to go inside quicker, it's the reason why he came on, again he showed his quality and what he is capable of. His quality and decision-making is of a very high level.

"We all know even if he is not playing he is a key player for us, he is always there every single day to help team-mates."

Good acrobatic clearance from Micky van de Ven to stop a cross finding Brentford striker Igor Thiago.

  5. 'Sometimes head has to win over heart'published at 20:13 GMT 1 January

    FT: Liverpool 0-0 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Daniel Farke speaking to BBC MOTD: "It doesn't come along that often that you get a clean sheet and a point at Anfield. We had to defend and suffer but we are newly promoted and came to the defending champions.

"There's always a special atmosphere on New Year's Day and you could feel that from the crowd but we performed well.

"The lads defended well and didn't allow clear cut chances. It's always important to be rock-solid against the ball and keep a clean sheet."

On Calvert-Lewin starting on the bench: "Sometimes the head has to win over the heart. We had four Premier League fixtures in 10 days and I have to trust my whole squad.

"We know what happened to Dominic in the last few years with injuries. Overall it was a sign of how much I trust the group."

On facing Manchester United next: "It will be tricky because we played late today and now we play early on Sunday.

"We will be without Ethan Ampadu after his yellow card today but we need to find solutions. We need to recover quickly."

Richarlison's pass in the box is very loose and Brentford break - although it leads to nothing in the end.

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "[Did you deserve to win?] definitely, I believe we did everything to win the game and we deserved it, the chances we created and [the way we] reacted second half after being behind was very good.

"We were the team that dominated more of the game, but we conceded when it was a strange decision from the referee to [to send Jorge Cuenca to the sidelne after taking arm in face].

"It's not an excuse but we should not have been playing with 10 men in that moment because our player was in a condition to keep going. I don't understand because the rules don't say that. It's not normal, it's happening too often.

"First half, before they scored, we were in control and doing well, and the reaction with Tom Cairney on the pitch was very good. The players reacted in the way they should, I am very pleased for them, but we should have won three points."

Speaking of Celebrations, there was a jar in the press room which journalists were digging in to.

They were gone in a flash.

  12. 'This is who we are'published at 20:08 GMT 1 January

    FT: Liverpool 0-0 Leeds

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking to Sky Sports about being denied a penalty in the first half: "There was an obvious moment in the first half where we didn't go to the floor, which I understand because every time we go to the floor we never get a penalty.

"Those are the margins, I see other teams going down in situations like that but we don't do that. We've gone down when fouls were made multiple times this season and not got a penalty.

"In general we do speak about it and other players going down easily to get free kicks or other moments but this is who we are.

"Against West Ham Lucas Paqueta tried everything possible to get a second yellow and Alisson, who plays with him on the national team, tried to help him not get a yellow. In the end he got the second yellow in that game.

"If other fans or people look into it you will find moments where we went down and didn't get anything. In the end it is who we are."

Sunderland definitely gave us a couple of scares at the Etihad. It's a shame they're not at full strength today but you've got to respect the atmosphere in the Stadium of Light. Hoping for a clean game for both teams with no injuries. Good luck Sunderland fans!

It is fortunate for Spurs. You cannot allow a header seven yards out. That zonal marking is so narrow and so tight.

It may be chalked off but that was way too easy for Manchester City.

A corner being flicked-on and finished off by Bernardo Silva but the flag quickly goes up to cut short the City fans' celebrations.

Have Sunderland just got away with one? They're normally so good at defending set pieces.

The white boot may just be a problem for Bernardo Silva. He's just offside. That's an amazing spot by the assistant referee.

I can't be the only Spurs fan that thinks losing Johnson is a mistake. None of the newer signings have done better than he has, he's a proven goalscorer and well liked. What's going on?
