  1. What next for France?published at 07:48 BST 10 July

    France 2-0 Morocco

France will play either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals of the World Cup in Dallas on Tuesday (20:00 BST).

England, who play Norway in the quarter-finals in Miami on Saturday, would not be able to play France until the final as they are in the other half of the draw, along with Argentina and Switzerland, who face each other in the last eight on Sunday.

The winners of those two ties will meet in the semi-finals in Atlanta on Wednesday.

The World Cup final will take place in New Jersey on Sunday, 19 July.

    Patrick Vieira
    Former France captain on ITV

Before the competition, we were all convinced that Spain would be in the semi-final or the quarter-final.

I think France will not have any kind of issues playing against them. I think France were a better team today than they were four years ago, but I don't think Spain are a better team today than they were four years ago.

I don't see anybody stopping the French team from going to the final.

  4. Poll: The best France team ever?published at 07:31 BST 10 July

    France 2-0 Morocco

Didier Deschamps has been a constant in France's most successful World Cup sides.

He was player and captain in 1998's Zinedine Zidane-inspired side that won the World Cup for the first time on home soil, then was manager in 2018 when Kylian Mbappe burst on to the world scene to propel Les Bleus to a second World Cup win in Russia.

Deschamps has said that this will be his third and final World Cup as manager, after also leading them to the 2022 final in Qatar, which they lost to Argentina on penalties.

But could the former Chelsea midfielder be signing off with a third World Cup after assembling the best-ever France side?

'Absolute perfection!' Mbappe fires France ahead against Morocco

France won the World Cup in 1998 and 2018 and have been tipped by many to go on and lift the trophy again on 19 July.

Before this quarter-final, former England striker Ian Wright described Didier Deschamps' side as "one of the most clear favourites for a World Cup tournament I have ever seen".

A match against Morocco, a rematch of the 2022 World Cup semi-final which France also won 2-0, was expected to be the toughest test so far.

Morocco, seventh in the world rankings, were frozen out though, registering their only shot on target in the 83rd minute when 2-0 down. They had only five attempts in total, four of those off target.

The only slight concern for France was the sight of the substituted Mbappe with ice on his right ankle after being replaced by Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 77th minute.

After the game, Mbappe showed any potential injury was not a serious one as he jumped around with team-mates to celebrate their sixth victory in a row at this tournament.

As well as having the joint top scorer in Mbappe, France are now also the leading team scorers in the competition with 16 goals from six games.

They remain the team to beat at this World Cup.

  9. Watch: France cruise past Morocco to reach World Cup semi-finalspublished at 07:07 BST 10 July

    France 2-0 Morocco

Kylian Mbappe had a stuttering first-half penalty saved by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou but responded with France's opener on the hour as the 1998 and 2018 champions cruised into the World Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win.

Mbappe's eighth of the tournament moved him level with Lionel Messi at the top of the tournament's goalscoring charts and just one behind the Argentine's all-time World Cup scoring record of 21.

Ousmane Dembele quickly followed Mbappe on to the scoresheet with his fifth goal of the tournament to confirm France's place in the last four for a third consecutive World Cup.
