Norway v England (Sat, 22:00 BST)

It promises to be a huge night for the Three Lions on Saturday as they take on Norway at the Miami Stadium.

However, England's hopes of progressing will require a defensive reshuffle from manager Thomas Tuchel, with Jarell Quansah suspended and Marc Guehi likely to be sidelined by a hamstring injury.

England's backline has the daunting - and seemingly impossible - task of keeping Erling Haaland quiet, with Norway's prolific striker certain to pose the biggest threat to the Three Lions' hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

I never have and never will understand the stuttering run up to take a penalty. Just make your mind up where you are going to place it, a smooth run up, and then hit it as hard as you can..... simples!!

One thing is for sure - the France players will pull out all the stops to try to win the World Cup one more time for manager Didier Deschamps.

Deschamps says he will step down after this tournament.

The 57-year-old is France's longest-serving coach, having been in charge since 2012, helping them win the World Cup in 2018 and finish as runners-up in 2022.

His mother died during this tournament and Deschamps flew home for her funeral, missing France's final group-stage win over Norway, but returned for the knockout stages.

On who France will want to face in the semi-final:

Belgium is the old rival. So many stories before, not just the proximity between the two countries, but everything historically, sporting-wise.

Then Spain is the old enemy in a way, too, not as old as Belgium, but the bogey team a little bit.

The team that knocked us out of the Euro semi-finals two years ago, and the team that probably has all of the qualities to counter this French team and this French attack.

For me, France v Spain should have been the final, would have been the best final, but if we have that in the semi-final, then it will be one of the games for the ages.

Hold your horses Dan, Spain have to beat Belgium tonight to set up that mouth-watering semi-final.

Although Opta do give Spain a 58.3% chance of winning that tie, with the Belgians heavy underdogs and rated as having a 19.1% chance of getting into the semi-finals.

We will be building up to Spain v Belgium a little later.

Coming up is the latest from the England camp.

But before that, here is France football expert Julien Laurens...

France v Spain will be fascinating. Unstoppable Force v Immovable Object. Can the Spanish control the game and limit France's attack? I wouldn't bet against it.

  8. 'A learning curve'published at 08:36 BST

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Hassan Kachloul
Former Morocco international speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live

Of course, Morocco came up against a very good French side but I think the manager was torn up between attacking.

When you don't have your main striker, a fixed point up front to reach, it suddenly becomes attack against defence.

Even if you put a lot of midfielders in, he thought he would have the upper hand in trying to move the ball forward, but it didn't happen and then suddenly they were creating very little.

It is a learning curve; they are not the only team that lost against France. Once again, we played three of the top eight teams [drawing with Brazil in the group stages and beating the Netherlands on penalties in the last 32] and it is very difficult to get to a final with so many great teams in front.

  9. Morocco frozen out?published at 08:33 BST

    France 2-0 Morocco

France may well have beaten Morocco with the handbrake on, they certainly did not need to hit top gear.

The rematch of the 2022 World Cup semi-final, which France also won 2-0, was expected to be their toughest test so far.

But Morocco, seventh in the world rankings, were frozen out, registering their only shot on target in the 83rd minute when 2-0 down.

They had only five attempts in total, four of those off target.

Morocco were hampered by the absence of first-choice striker Ismael Saibari, who missed the match with a hamstring injury.

  10. 'France seem to cruise to this stage'published at 08:28 BST

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

The thing that makes it more impressive is that every single side has struggled to get to the next round.

Argentina, memorable nights, Spain against Portugal, England with Mexico and yet France seem to cruise to this stage.

They are better than 2022, no doubt about it, better than 2024 and they get better in the tournament, but as I have said, they don't need to impress because a move from Doue or Barcola coming on - that is the thing, when the level maybe dropped or Mbappe decides he isn't playing anymore and sits on the floor, they just come in with [other players].

    But don't be scared.

I think they've [France] definitely played the best so far BUT, they were poor for 69 minutes last night, Morocco were atrocious, and France were poor in the 1st half against Senegal. Have they peaked too soon?

  12. France's sublime progresspublished at 08:22 BST

    France

Penalties aside, France have barely had a miss-step in this tournament.

They are top scorers with 16 goals and have conceded just two goals in their six games.

Only Spain, potentially France's next opponents, have a better defensive record. The European champions are yet to concede a goal, having played five games.

France's run to World Cup semi-finals:

    • Group I - France 3-1 Senegal
    • Group I - France 3-0 Iraq
    • Group I - Norway 1-4 France
    • Last 32 - France 3-0 Sweden
    • Last 16 - Paraguay 0-1 France
    • Quarter-final - France 2-0 Morocco
  13. Mbappe's stuttering penalty only negative for Francepublished at 08:15 BST

    France 2-0 Morocco

Kylian Mbappe had to wait more than three minutes before the spot-kick as the video assistant referee checked whether there was a foul.

He was fouled by Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui.

After an interminable delay, Mbappe then stuttered in his run-up before his low shot to the right corner was easily saved by Yassine Bounou.

No goalkeeper has more World Cup penalty saves - including shootouts - than Bounou's four.

    France 2-0 Morocco

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live at Boston Stadium

France are the best, the most skilful, the most dangerous attacking team in the tournament, which is saying something considering the standard of strikers out there, but they have more than one. They have two, three, four that are capable.

We have seen one or two weaknesses, glimmers, no more than that. Sometimes, when they have cruised to a win, they do take their eye off the ball. In reality, perhaps the only team that can stop them is themselves by not playing at their best.

Of course France are favourites as they're the only team into the semis. They're also the only team to have had the chance to win a quarter final (except a poor Morocco). Yes, they're good but they aren't that far out in front. Spain will beat them in the semis.
