Middlesbrough play host to Portsmouth this afternoon with both sides in dire need of the three points for completely contrasting reasons.

Millwall's point on the road at West Bromwich Albion last night means Boro dropped to fourth and are now three points behind second-placed Ipswich.

Boro are winless in their past five matches, however, and were left left looking downcast after a 2-2 draw with Swansea in South Wales on Easter Monday.

Pompey themselves picked up a 2-2 draw on Monday, at home against fellow strugglers Oxford United, but in very different circumstances after seeing Connor Ogilvie receive a straight red card in the first half.

John Mousinho's side start the day outside the bottom three by a point with six games left to save their season, and with Leicester City and Oxford both at home today, picking up a result on the road this afternoon could be crucial in their fight for survival come the end of the season.

Well, well - two goalless draws and a feisty derby at lunchtime. It felt like there was much more drama than the two goals suggested!

We've still got seven games to come at 15:00 BST, so let's get cracking with the build-up to those...

    Here's how the table looks.

Coventry's goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday means the Sky Blues will not be promoted to the Premier League this weekend.

While Ipswich's win at their big rivals Norwich in the East Anglian derby means they have gone up to second place and are looking in great shape to claim that second automatic promotion spot, with two games in hand over Millwall.

The less said about QPR's draw at home to Bristol City the better.

They stay level on points in mid-table.

That's football, you think you're going to win a game but you're never sure.

We said they'd come out fighting, five at the back it's always tough when teams park the bus.

You look at the stats and they look quite impressive, they show that we should have won the game, but it's one of those anomalies where we just didn't win the game.

The bounce wasn't quite right or the shot was fluffed, you have those times, I wish it wasn't of course, I was looking forward to seeing Coventry score a goal today.

You can see with how quickly the players left the pitch, they're disappointed but there's still work to be done.

    FT: Norwich 0-2 Ipswich

    Ipswich Town

Ipswich goalscorer George Hirst told Sky Sports: "We're under pressure every single week. Days like today show how far we have come in dealing with that."

On scoring moments after seeing a big chance saved: "As a striker you miss one, get ready to take the next one, and I did that. I don't think the Ipswich fans will mind.

"It's not the best we've played this season but it was all about the result."

  7. 'It means everything to us'published at 14:34 BST 11 April

    FT: Norwich 0-2 Ipswich

    Ipswich Town

Ipswich defender and player of the match Dara O'Shea told Sky Sports: "Our fans have had so much heartbreak with this fixture so to be the team to do the double after 33 years means everything to us.

"We have a bigger goal this season but this was definitely one of the smaller goals we had."

On the controversial penalty which gave them the chance to take an early lead: "Decisions that go in your favour are always welcome. it was a big day, we didn't play our best football but we got the result and I'm proud of us.

"We're one of the better teams in the league, teams give their all against us, everyone wants to beat us, we are in a great run of form but we have to keep going."

    FT: Norwich 0-2 Ipswich

    Glenn Speller

All the statistics point to a Norwich win apart from the most important one - the scoreline.

For all the possession and corners, Norwich just did not test Christian Walton enough and Ipswich have done a bit of a job on them.

Having said all that, Vladan Kovacevic made three vital saves to keep the scoreline down.

The game threatened to boil over on a number of occasions and while Marcelino Nunez's stock may not have been the highest on his return to his former club, being substituted having come on as a substitute himself is not one for the family album as he was fortunate not to be sent-off.

Ipswich back in the top two and they just have that look of a team who can get over the line in the promotion race.

Full-time and Coventry have been held to a draw by bottom club Sheffield Wednesday! They can't go up today.

Well doesn't that just sum up the unpredictability of the Championship?

Wednesday's wholehearted defensive efforts in the second half means the Owls come away with a fully-merited point on the road to take their overall tally to -4.

Coventry will certainly be promoted this season, but they won't officially go up today as they toiled for most of the match.

Liam Kitching went closest to scoring before the break when his header was cleared off the line by a recovering Svante Ingelsson before, with the last kick of the game, substitute Ellis Simms grazed the outside of the post with a spectacular overhead kick.

The champagne remains on ice, for now.

Ipswich complete the league double over their bitter rivals for the first time since 1993.

They have also returned to the automatic promotion places and surely ended any hopes Norwich had of gatecrashing the play-offs.

What a day to be a Tractor Boy.

Jaden Philogene stroked the visitors ahead on 11 minutes after Jack Taylor won a penalty after pinching the ball off the toe of Anis Slimane and George Hirst swept home the second in added time at the end of the first half.

Marcelino Nunez came off the bench after the break at his former club but lasted just 22 minutes as Kieran McKenna was forced to sub him before he was sent-off, committing two fouls after being booked.

Nunez is on the pitch celebrating with the away fans.

With the way things are going, Ipswich will not be playing here next season.

I think that's Norwich biggest chance of the game.

It's straight over the bar and for a central defender, it's a very poor header.

Norwich piling on the pressure but Ipswich look a threat on the break whenever they pinch the ball.

City have a corner... two mins into the six added.

Paris Maghoma curls a ball in but Jose Cordoba plants a free header well over the bar when well-placed eight yards out.

Big chance, perhaps their best, goes begging.

Ali Ahmed turns down a first-time shot from 20 yards out after being found in a good position by Oscar Schwartau but he is bundled over by Dan Neil to at least win a dangerous free-kick, which Kenny McLean thumps into the big Ipswich wall.

SIX added minutes for Ipswich to survive.
