Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: "We were on the back foot from minute one. Celtic were on top of us. We can do better, how we attack the game this way.

"Then, of course a red card. The start of the second half, we were a bit lucky. Some good saves but also we need some luck. We survived that moment.

"Kjartan [Kjartansson] and Kenan [Bilalovic] did really well in that moment and it gave us a chance to grab a point. We were disappointed after the game because we were so close."

More from Hearts boss Derek McInnes, who told BBC Scotland: "Rangers are a good team, with good players, they spend thousands on wages every week, they spend millions putting a squad together.

"If you give any of their good players encouragement, they can hurt you. We expected a tough game and we got a tough game, but we also expected to win.

"We have turned up for these games. The bigger the game, the bigger the performance and it's been there.

"They are an absolute pleasure to work with. It is a pleasure to see them improving. Pleasure to see the place the way it was at the end knowing there is a bit more in us."

Wilfried Nancy will be a success at Celtic if they give him time, IMO. Think Celtic have enough of a quality gap on teams in their league for a style like this to work consistently. They do need players that suit the system a little more. Signs are bright though, to me, against Aberdeen so far and in the game v Dundee United.

Celtic need a striker to put the ball in the back of the net.

Any top, top class striker would've probably scored maybe three or four goals there today. There is no question.

He's just got to tighten up those defensive qualities. That's the bit I would think he might bring in a player to consolidate that.

Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy tells BBC Sportsound: "The players did really, really well.

"We hit five times the post and I've never seen that in my life. We deserved more. I can see an improvement every game. I'm happy for the players because they deserved it.

"Many teams could've been down with all the chances we had but we kept going wave after wave after wave and I'm really proud of that.

"Good for the players just to validate what they did because I know that it was not easy for them. They need a bit of time. I'm happy for the players. I'm happy for the fans, I'm happy for the club, I'm happy for the board.

"We chase anybody. The idea is to compete with ourselves. After that, the standings, we'll see."

[Nancy] has given himself a bit of time. It'll be really interesting who he brings in. I'm sure they must have their homework done on that and they'll bring in a couple of players that can actually enhance this way of playing and this team. If they don't do that, then there'll be more questions asked.

Asked about Hearts' title prospects, Derek McInnes points out "we are not quite at the halfway stage" in the Premiership season.

"Improvements still need to come for us," Hearts' head coach tells BBC Scotland.

"It is important we come out the January window a bit stronger and the players here sense they have to keep working hard and keep looking to improve.

"I certainly hope we can make this a special season. I am always hearing we are only at the top of the league because teams not being as good as they normally are, but our actual points tally is actually around where a team at the top of the table are usually at.

"I think there's more wins in us. I expect us to get better as we go along.

"We just want the games to get bigger and bigger and, for Hearts to stay relevant, we just need to keep chalking off wins."

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes thinks his side "were good value for the two-goal victory".

"Obviously you've got to keep doing the right things and we're a little bit annoyed with the goal we lost," he tells BBC Scotland.

"But, if you are going to lose a goal with a 2-0 lead, do it with 10 seconds to go. I was grateful to hear that final whistle go so quickly.

"We got a wee bit of a break with the disallowed goal. But Rangers' line-up surprised us - they have not been 5-3-2, certainly not from the start of games. Mikey Moore playing as a central striker surprised us and we never quite got our distances right.

"But, after we secured that after 15 minutes, I thought we connected the game really well. I thought we carried a threat, we disrupted Rangers' fluency. From then on in, we were worthy of the 2-0 lead at half time.

"Then we just see it out. I thought we defended brilliantly. I am just disappointed we didn't get the third goal because we had good moments to get it."

Rangers manager Danny Rohl is not giving up on his side's title hopes just yet.

"Of course we are disappointed - we want to win this game," he tells BBC Scotland.

"We knew before it would be a tough place to come and I felt, until the first conceded goal, both teams played good football, we were good organised, we had our moments, they had their moments.

"And then we conceded two goals very quick and it changed the game and then it's tough to come back. If you can score earlier with some minutes to go, we are in the game, but in the end we lose 2-1 and it is tough today.

"Now we have to react well. Today was a little bit a step sidewards and we have to improve.

"It is tough to come back, but step by step, game by game, we have still a lot of games to go. We need consistently good performances and get results and, if we do that, we are in a good way."

While we wait for reaction from Celtic Park, let's see what the managers said at Tynecastle.

Leaders Hearts were well worth their win to open up a 12-point gap between themselves and Rangers.

To think Aberdeen were just minutes away from a draw...

That finale could prove to be huge in Wilfried Nancy's Celtic reign.

I don’t agree with everything Wilfried Nancy has done and I wasn’t at Celtic Park today, but it sounds like loads of chances missed once again.

Celtic’s greatest issue has not being able to create and convert, and that’s not on Wilfried... He has got what he’s got and it’s not top drawer.
