This is going to keep us on the edges of our seats. Good luck to both of them, they deserve to be here in the final.

Watching the semis last night was the first time I have ever watched darts and I was so amazed by the skill! Whoever wins is truly an incredibly talented young man.

    Gail, Wigan

GVV got this in the bag. Littler has the pressure of being expected to win.

The conclusion of that first set showed you that even the very best can feel a few nerves on the big stage.

Gian van Veen hits his double eventually, though, to take the first set. Given he had the darts, it feels like that was a must for the Dutchman.

  4. Van Veen wins first setpublished at 20:30 GMT 3 January

    Littler 0-1 Van Veen (2-3)

Gian van Veen needs a 170 to win the set. He gets the first treble, he gets the second... he hits the 25.

Luke Littler doesn't check out with the next throw, but Van Veen doesn't take advantage, going inside on double eight.

But Littler can't take out his trusty tops in three darts. Van Veen finally wraps it up on double four.

Gian looks so comfortable on double eight. It's bailed him out so many times.

Gian van Veen slipped in the last throw, now it's Luke Littler's turn to do so.

The Dutchman breaks and will not have the darts for the set. Littler's scoring was poor in that leg and he didn't finish when he had the chance.

The young guns are going to go for it. Cracking game, looking forward to it

I wonder how many “Here, Fishy, Fishy” we hear tonight, crazy to think that darts has reached such a level where multiple 170s are expected. Going to be a great match!

That is a poor leg from Gian van Veen on his throw.

    85, 68, 48, 40 and 81.

Luke Littler checks out tops to take advantage.

I would love to see them go through phases of not missing doubles because we would see patterns of ludicrous play.

Oh! So close. Luke Littler nearly finds a 161 but hits the 25 instead of the bullseye.

Gian van Veen can't see off 164 and Littler takes out 25 to level the set.

For the final time at this year's tournament...

    Game on.

A reminder that it's the best of five legs in each set, and the best of 13 sets.

Going to a cracker tonight, strap in folks. Van Veen to edge it with a nine-darter in there as well!

    Joe, Hadlow

Really looking forward to this one! If GVV can handle the nerves, we could see a repeat of Taylor v Barney 2007 classic. Alternatively, Littler could steamroll him to a Manleyesque beating…. #justdontknow

Gian van Veen has the whole package.

He's got the temperament, he scores heavy and his finishing is great.

There is a screen in the media room that will show all the stats as tonight's final progresses.

At the moment, though, it is showing Luke Littler and Gian van Veen's numbers for the tournament so far.

Littler is ahead - just - in pretty much every category.

Van Veen has 30 more 140-plus visits but 'The Nuke' has the better average, 103.44 to 102.16, fewer trebleless visits, 57 180s to Van Veen's 48 and the better checkout percentage, 55% to 51%.

All pretty close but based on that, the smart prediction is a narrow victory for Littler, right?

  20. 'This final could be a glimpse of the future'published at 20:09 GMT 3 January

    Littler v Van Veen

    Matthew Edgar
Former PDC professional on BBC Radio 5 Live

Gian van Veen has been exceptional.

His progression this year, there's always a conversation about the two Lukes - Littler and Humphries - but if there is anyone that can stop them, it is Van Veen.

He has proven it multiple times this year. He has beaten Luke Littler on the European Tour stage on a couple of occasions, he's now got five wins in a row against Luke Humphries.

Littler v Van Veen could be a glimpse of the future of the sport. It is rivalry we could get for the next five to 10 years.
