Will Jacks nicked it through to the keeper. There's another one...

It's a third wicket for Scott Boland!

More handy delivery accounts for Will Jacks, with the ball taking the inside edge of the number eight's bat on its way through to Alex Carey.

The Victorian seamer now has figures of 3-16 from 5.2 overs and will be eyeing a place on the honours board at his home ground.

Gus Atkinson will arrive at the crease just in time for the players to take drinks.

I feel very sorry for any fans who have made the trip to Melbourne who have day three tickets. Doesn't look like they'll see much play.

Will Jacks hits Jhye Richardson backward of square and the England batters get back for three runs.

We've seen a fair number of threes today thanks to the big wide outfield at the MCG.

Will Jacks advances down the track to his first delivery and wafts at thin air thanks to more prodigious Scott Boland movement.

A Brook-ian start from the England number eight, who gets off the mark with a mis-timed hack that skews aerially into the off side for a single.

Jamie Smith trying to defend the ball...

Scott Boland loves playing on this ground, it has nipped back a long way. Australia, again, putting the ball in the right areas and Smith was looking to block the ball, but he completely missed it.

Australia will be happy now. England are 84 runs behind.

It's another peach from Scott Boland!

The home town seamer picks up his second wicket with a delivery that jags between Jamie Smith's bat and pad and breaks the stumps.

Not much Smith could have done about that.

19 wickets on day one in Perth fell, and we have had 15 so far today. We might have another two-dayer.

Jhye Richardson's parsimonious start continues - he sends down a maiden to Ben Stokes.

Meanwhile the TV graphics show Scott Boland's wicket ball to Harry Brook moved 16cm after pitching.

For all the talk of the batting, the key difference in this series is the bowling. Relentless Aussie bowling at both ends, no easy runs. And without the "premier" attack. We haven't been able to do this since Jimmy and it's by far the more concerning part of this side.

The out-of-form Jamie Smith comes to the crease with a big innings required.

He starts his innings with a two through mid-wicket.

Harry Brook was just stepping outside the off stump, and he was trying to get outside the line. He looked at his captain, Ben Stokes, and he thought it was stone dead.

It was good not to review from Brook. He came out and played some ridiculous shots to start his innings, but he settled down for a little bit.

The frustrating thing is England finally bowled Australia out for a cheap low total and then England mess it up.

    Plumb.

Despite his being a crucial wicket, Harry Brook doesn't bother reviewing after he's struck on the pads by Scott Boland.

Another excellent delivery from the seamer, who is playing on his home ground, with the ball coming back in a fair bit.

Three balls earlier Ben Stokes had brought up a run-a-ball fifty partnership with a three into the covers, but the England skipper will now have to rebuild again with a new partner.

England's top four between them managed eight runs. That was the fourth-worst return by the top four in England's Test history.

  16. Eng 62-4published at 16 overs

Once again, Jhye Richardson's over goes for just a single, with Harry Brook sending the ball out to square leg.

That takes Brook into the forties.

Currently at the MCG, some of the keyboard critics on here should come and face a couple of deliveries, the new ball was doing plenty.

Scott Boland continues to cause trouble, once again beating the bat of England captain Ben Stokes.

He doesn't get everything his own way though, with Harry Brook driving well into the covers - Travis Head just about gets round to tip the ball away from the rope, with the batters running three.

As of this over Harry Brook is the top-scorer of the day, having gone past Michael Neser's 35.

England’s batsmen can’t win. If they go full Bazball and lose wickets in tough conditions we complain. If they play safe and lose wickets in tough conditions we complain. We’re just up against a better team in their own backyard.

One thing which is frustrating to see, the Australian bowlers are getting the ball to talk because they put the ball in the right areas.
