    Shanaka c Brook b Curran 20 (SL 129-7)

Sam Curran gets the Sri Lanka captain!

Wanindu Hasaranga fires the ball to Harry Brook at mid-off and would have been out by a mile had the England skipper's throw hit the stumps rather than scud just past them.

That brings Dasun Shanaka on strike and he immediately hits the next ball straight to Brook.

  2. SL 125-6published at 15 overs

Three more singles off the rest of the over, with Dasun Shanaka failing to get hold of a pull off Jofra Archer's last ball.

We've got two overs to go - Sam Curran, who has conceded 35 runs from his two overs, is coming back.

Adil Rashid - leg breaks in T20Is:

    2020-23 - 34 wkts, 32.7 average

    2024-now - 22 wkts, 19.0 average

Adil Rashid has been more effective as a wicket-taker with his leg break in T20Is in recent years, dropping his average speed down from 52 mph to 49 mph, helping him to increase his average turn from 3.1° to 4.1°.

  4. 6 runs

    SL 122-6published at 14.1 overs

    Jofra Archer won't like that.

The England seamer returns for a third over and Dasun Shanaka dumps his first delivery into the crowd at mid-wicket.

  5. SL 116-6published at 14 overs

Dasun Shanaka clips Jamie Overton square and survives a shout for a catch, with the ball dropping just short of a diving Sam Curran running in from the ropes.

Wanindu Hasaranga then cracks the next ball through the covers for a one-bounce four.

This is very encouraging for England’s World Cup prep for the spinners Rashid and Dawson.

  7. 6 runs

    SL 110-6published at 13 overs

    There's a six!

Dasun Shanaka picks up a much-needed boundary, heaving Liam Dawson over mid-wicket.

Dawson's day is done with figures of 2-31 his reward.

  8. SL 100-6published at 12 overs

Wanindu Hasaranga gets a run to mid-on to get off the mark, before Dasun Shanaka brings up his side's hundred with a single square.

There's been a wicket in each of the last five overs, with Rashid and Dawson causing havoc - the hosts have lost 5-22.

Meanwhile Rashid has figures of 3-19 from his four overs - that's him done.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.4 overs

    Dhananjaya c Curran b Rashid 11 (SL 98-6)

Adil Rashid is all over Dhananjaya de Silva like a rash and he gets his man with his fourth delivery.

Having missed the last two deliveries, the Sri Lanka batter lumps Rashid's delivery out to backward square where Sam Curran is waiting to take the catch.

  10. SL 98-5published at 11 overs

Captain Dasun Shanaka comes to the crease with his side in a bit of trouble, having lost four wickets for 22 runs.

He fails to score off the last two balls of the over.

    Liyanage lbw b Dawson 1 (SL 98-5)

    Yeah, that's plumb.

I struggle to see how that wasn't given out the field - it kept a little low, Janith Liyanage was too early on it and ball tracking has Liam Dawson's delivery striking halfway up the stumps.

  12. England reviewpublished at 10.4 overs

But have England now trapped Janith Liyanage lbw?

Nothing from the umpire, but this looks good and England are going to send it upstairs.

Bethell is brilliant fielder, he will be upset with that because he was diving full length and moving forward but he got both hands underneath it.

  14. dropped catch

Dhananjaya dropped on eightpublished at 10.2 overs

Dhananjaya de Silva, you lucky man.

The Sri Lanka batter advances to Liam Dawson, gets in a bit of a mess and manages to chop the ball past his leg stump for four.

He hits the next ball aerially into the covers and Jacob Bethell makes excellent ground running in from the ropes, getting at least one hand on the ball but failing to hold on with a full-length flying forward dive.

Dhananjaya runs two to move to 10.

So happy to see Liam Dawson succeeding and taking wickets in an England shirt. He has been amazing for Hampshire for so long and deserves the backing of a long run in an England side

  17. SL 91-4published at 10 overs

Janith Liyanage sweeps a single with his first ball, and Dhananjaya de Silva adds another single to end the over.

Remember - we've only got seven overs left as this match has been shortened because of rain.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.4 overs

    Mendis c Overton b Rashid 37 (SL 89-4)

    Swift revenge for Adil Rashid.

Kusal Mendis sweeps the England spinner hard and flat through square for four, but Rashid dismisses the Sri Lanka batter with his next delivery.

It's a heave into the leg side that Mendis doesn't connect with and Jamie Overton settles under the ball and completes the catch.

Liam Dawson has been noticeably effective against left-handers since his return to England's T20I setup, taking six wickets at an average of 9.1. He goes wide with nearly 50% of his deliveries to the left-handers, aiming to keep it out of their hitting arc.

  20. SL 83-3published at 9 overs

Dhananjaya de Silva is next up for Sri Lanka and he immediately gets a single out to mid-wicket.

Two more singles follow, and that's a strong second over from Liam Dawson.
