  1. Eng 136-3published at 30.3 overs

Harry Brook charged Kyle Jamieson an over or two ago, but seems content to use his crease against Matthew Henry to pick off singles with nudges and nurdles.

I'm just looking at the Harry Brook overturned decision. It's just a feather. It's not a big deflection, he's brushed the edge of the bat.

Joe Root has converted 41 of his 108 half-centuries into centuries.

Brook playing his natural way. Root playing the way that got him to 14,000 runs. Flat pitch. Game well and truly back on with these two at the crease. Weirder things have happened…

  7. Brook not out on reviewpublished at 28.3 overs

Another inside edge means the decision is overturned.

Harry Brook had reviewed it immediately.

  8. England reviewpublished at 28.3 overs

Harry Brook struck on the pad by Matthew Henry this time.

    It's given out on field.

Brook has reviewed it. Is there some bat on this? He was trying to work it leg...

  9. Eng 126-3published at 28 overs

In fact. Let's test the mood of the nation.

Thumbs up if you think will England draw (or even win) this Test.

Thumbs down if you believe England will lose.

  10. 50 runs

Half-century for Rootpublished at 27.4 overs

The peerless Joe Root with another half-century, off 81 balls.

He gets there with a dab down to the vacant (still...) third region for four off Kyle Jamieson.

A maiden from Matthew Henry - seen off by Joe Root - wrestles a littl bit of the momentum back New Zealand's way.

If Joe Root fancies batting and getting another 1,900+ runs in this test I’ve got no issue with it

How are we all feeling? A bit more optimistic?

Pitch looks flat. Weather set fair. Joe Root and Harry Brook both look in good touch.

Two Yorkies to save England's bacon, per chance?

    Ben Jones

Since Harry Brook's debut, 11% of England's runs have come from Brook and Joe Root batting together in Tests.

Regarding the Joe Root lbw review. On the first replay it looks clear but when it's slowed down it's a tricky one. The side on view looks like it hits the pad first but I think it's the right call.

  16. Eng 118-3published at 25 overs

Matthew Henry makes a quip to Joe Root after he scampers up the other end for a single.

Something about lbw and surf boards, perhaps?

Feels a slightly different game with the skillful Henry bowling for the Black Caps.

Big thick chunk of inside edge on it, though.

    Decision overturned.

    The Oval crowd cheers.

  19. England reviewpublished at 24.1 overs

    Given out.

    Root's immediately reviewed.

  20. 50 runs

Fifty for Brookpublished at 24 overs

Flamboyant Harry Brook at his best.

He backs away to leg to open up the offside, takes a few steps forward, and whacks Kyle Jamieson inside out over cover for four.

Later in the over he brings up his half-century off 33 balls by opening the face and guiding Jamieson down through the vacant (still...) region at deep third.
