I'm typing this with some reluctance... it's raining again and covers are being brought back on.

  4. 'I am happy to end of a good note'published at 15:28 BST 23 October 2025

India's Pratika Rawal: "I am very happy with the way our team has begun.

"I want to bat as much as I can so to bat for longer today is great.

"I was struggling at the start to middle the ball but I am happy that we ended on a good note."

  5. Ind 340-3published at 49 overs

    Rodrigues 76*, Ghosh 4

Dot, two, four, single, wicket, four.

And that's the end of India's innings. The batters run from the field.

That is not the greatest ball Rosemary Mair has bowled. A good catch from Eden Carson however and Harmanpreet Kaur is not happy.

The outfield looks much slower than it did earlier because of the rain.

  9. dropped catch

Dropped catch - Rodrigues on 71published at 48.3 overs

Jemimah Rodrigues showcases her intent from ball one of the final over, stepping across to try and slog Rosemary Mair. She fails to connect cleanly and ends up on her back.

She takes two off the next ball and is then dropped in the deep by Maddy Green, with the ball rolling into the rope for four.

T-minus five minutes until we're back underway in Navi Mumbai.

India are 329-2 after 48 overs, with Jemimah Rodrigues on 69 (51) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur on 10 (10).

India will bat for one more over in this rain-reduced 49-over-per-side game. Then there'll be a 10-minute innings break before New Zealand start their chase.

You imagine Rodrigues and Kaur will swing for the hills for these six deliveries.

    Stumped

On this week's Stumped, with Alison Mitchell, Matt Clinch and Charu Sharma, we take a closer look at how climate change affects cricket.

England batter Maia Bouchier tells us about the physical and mental effects of extreme heat; that's after she contributed to a recent report which warns that players at all levels of the game across the globe are being placed at increasing risk due to playing in extreme conditions.

They discuss the latest from the Women's World Cup and ask what can be done to mitigate the weather after a number of games were washed out in Sri Lanka.

There's still 20 minutes until play resumes.

Why not watch these highlights of Smriti Mandhana's innings? It never gets old.

    Thanks Mike.

They're doing quite a good clean-up job. Several areas on the boundary were underwater a few minutes ago but it's looking pretty dry now.

  16. Postpublished at 14:49 BST 23 October 2025

More positive news - all the covers have been taken off now bar the one on the square.

Hopefully that's a sign we'll get back on time at 15:20 BST.

I'm going to hand you over to Elizabeth Botcherby.

    Hmm, OK.

So we've got a restart time - 15:20 BST, with India bafflingly coming back to bat one of their two remaining overs in a 49-over game.

However, it is raining again and the covers, which were half off the field, appear to be being moving around again.

  18. Postpublished at 14:30 BST 23 October 2025

No wait, they're now collecting water from that sheet and pooling it into a bucket to be carried away.

Meanwhile we can see some big puddles on the boundary's edge.

  19. Postpublished at 14:29 BST 23 October 2025

The umpires are now in conversation with the two captains - again, we can't hear what they're saying, and it's hard to read anything from Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine's body language.

It does appear to have stopped raining. Some ground staff have lifted up the edges of a smaller cover and appear to be pouring standing water onto it, presumably so they can use it as a big container to carry the water off the field.

  20. Postpublished at 14:23 BST 23 October 2025

The TV cameras are showing the umpires in discussion with a member of the ground staff.

Unfortunately we don't have any sound, but there does seem to be a firm exchange of views going on.
