A nice bit of captaincy, they said to Jamie Smith to come up to the stumps. Ollie Robinson trapped him on the crease.

It's just grazing the leg stump but it's out. Keep the batters in the crease, keep them shuffling around.

    Mitchell lbw b Robinson 0 (NZ 53-5)

Daryl Mitchell won't be happy but ball-tracking has the ball clipping leg stump, umpire's call and he's got to go.

The New Zealand right-hander played all round his front pad as Ollie Robinson targeted the stumps and was hit bang in front.

The only question was whether it had nipped too much. Not quite and England are just five wickets from victory.

  3. New Zealand reviewpublished at 19.3 overs

    NZ 53-4

England clearly knew Daryl Mitchell likes to bat out of his crease so send Jamie Smith up to the stumps.

Next ball, Ollie Robinson raps him on the front pad and up goes the umpire's finger.

    Reviewed but it looks close.

There's been a big emphasis on batters playing close to their body to succeed on this tricky pitch. Rachin Ravindra did quite the opposite. His average impact point in this match was 2.3m, the furthest of any batter, partly due to his guard outside the crease, however, it wasn't ideal with the ball doing so much. Only Daryl Mitchell (2.5m) batted even further down than Ravindra.

It's very difficult to read anything off the pitch, good luck! It's a tough Test match for the batters.

    Target 254

We've seen a few stay very low and now Josh Tongue is getting a couple to jump off this pitch.

Devon Conway is rapped on the gloves and can be thankful only that the ball went to ground rather than ballooning up.

It's one of those ones that angles in and hits the top of off stump. It's a great delivery from Ollie Robinson, just what he's asked to do. It's taken a bit of time to get into today's cricket but that is a beauty.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18 overs

    Ravindra b Robinson 8 (NZ 53-4)

    Ollie Robinson does it again!

Superb from the England seamer. Round the wicket, angled in at off stump and the ball just holds its line to beat the bat.

Off stump is pegged back and a miserable Test for Rachin Ravindra comes to an end.

  9. NZ 51-3published at 17.1 overs

    Target 254

Back up and running and Rachin Ravindra angles the first ball of the Ollie Robinson over to the left of gully for two.

It's still not looking great out there but it's dry, at least.

Given I have tickets for tomorrow, today is proving quite thrilling watching the rain come and go. Very happy they took a leisurely lunch!

Stumps back in, England fielders gathered on the boundary edge.

    We go again.

I make it 21 balls in that last "session", including one no-ball, so slightly better than last time.

The cover is coming off already so let's see how long they manage out there this time...

  13. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 13:38 BST 6 June

Ollie Robinson is going to bowl from the Nursery End... but not quite yet.

The rain has blown in again and off they go. Of course.

The ball doesn't seem to be jagging quite as much. It's cooler today, there is this mizzly mist over the ground.

  15. NZ 49-3published at 17 overs

    Target 254

The last ball of the Josh Tongue over wobbles after passing the stumps and causes problems for Jamie Smith problems.

It just misses the helmet behind the wicketkeeper, no bonus five runs for New Zealand.

That was Rachin Ravindra's first positive contribution to the game. He dropped two catches and was out for nought in the first innings.

He's got the chance to make a hero of himself. You've always got that second chance in Test cricket.

  17. NZ 48-3published at 16.2 overs

    Target 254

    Lovely shot.

Rachin Ravindra gets off the pair in style, driving beautifully through mid-off for four.

  18. Postpublished at 13:35 BST 6 June

Change of bowling. Josh Tongue replaces Ollie Robinson at the Pavilion End.

I fancy Robinson will replace Gus Atkinson at the Nursery End, where he has had his success in this Test, at some stage.

  19. NZ 44-3published at 16 overs

    Target 254

Probing stuff from Gus Atkinson, who is digging a trench just outside the left-hander's off stump.

Devon Conway has to be wary of the ball jagging in off the seam to bring to stumps into play but negotiates this over well enough.

    A maiden.

Very good, Steve. You currently hold the prestigious title of best 'Get Involved' of the day.

Meanwhile, Ollie Robinson gets through another tidy over, just a single for Devon Conway from it.
