    Hampshire wicketkeeper Ben Brown is standing up to the stumps when Kyle Abbott is bowling. Seems to be the fashion these days!

    The sun is out and there's a big rebuilding job for James Wharton and Matt Revis to do for Yorkshire after those three early wickets.

  4. Glamorgan turn to ul-Hassan

    Leicestershire 23-0 v Glamorgan

    Promising first over from Zain-ul-Hassan as Glamorgan look for a breakthrough at Leicester.

    He beats the bat of Sheridon Gumbs and has an appeal for a legside catch behind turned down.

  5. Crawley batting for Kent

    Middlesex v Kent 27-1

    Zak Crawley is yet to make a half-century in the County Championship for Kent this season, with a highest score of 44.

    If he's going to have any chance of reclaiming his England Test spot, he needs to make some runs in the county game.

    As I type that, Crawley's opening partner Ben Compton is out lbw to Tom Helm and he's joined by the experienced Sam Northeast.

    Wickets are tumbling at Utilita Bowl and it's not the start Yorkshire would have wanted after winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

    We will not be having any play at all this morning in Manchester.

    There was heavy rain overnight - well heavy by the standards of summer 2026 - and the umpires have decided they want a further inspection at 12:15 BST with an early lunch being taken 15 minutes later.

    A second wicket of the morning for veteran seamer Kyle Abbott, who angles the ball in from around the wicket to Sam Whiteman and the Yorkshire left-hander edges behind for a duck.

    McCann c Sibley b Fisher 1 (Surrey v Notts 14-3)

    What a start from Surrey's opening bowlers.

    It's Matt Fisher who's got his second. He beats the bat of Joe Clarke with the fourth ball of his third over and then finds the edge with the last, straight into the midriff of Dom Sibley at slip and Freddie McCann has fallen.

    The defending champions are having a torrid time at the Oval.

  10. Hampshire v Yorkshire 9-1

    Interesting to see how Sonny Baker fares today for Hampshire. This is just a 15th first-class match for Baker, who made his England Test debut against New Zealand earlier this summer and helped Manchester Super Giants win the Hundred a few days ago.

    He beats Adam Lyth with a beauty just outside the left-hander's off-stump and the visitors are 9-1 at the end of the sixth over.

    Isn't it just typical? The Hundred and the T20 Blast had all the great (for cricket) weather. When the proper stuff starts back up, it rains for the first time in weeks (for most).

  12. Steady as you go at Leicester

    Leicestershire 12-0 v Glamorgan

    After Rishi Patel scored seven from the first over, Leicestershire have added just five more in the next five.

    South African, Ray Toole, has opened his Glamorgan spell with three maidens but it's been a comfortable enough start for Patel and Sheridon Gumbs.

    Sam Cook strikes. It had looked like a wonderful world for Tom Lammonby this morning as he caressed four fours in no time. But he is the victim of an unlucky ricochet off his thigh pad from a ball angling towards leg and it cannons unluckily into his stumps and Essex have a breakthrough.

    Not yet Henry Nicholls time.

    The new man in is Lewis Goldsworthy.

    Reports that it might be raining half-a-mile north of the ground at Taunton.

    Still no sign of the flow of early runs stopping though.

    Tom Lammonby is on 10, two of them boundaries. Josh Thomas is on 8.

    Kyle Abbott gets through Will Luxton's forward defensive shot and the Yorkshire opener is trapped in front.

    As regulation as you like at Cheltenham as Cameron Bancroft can't play a captain's knock.

    He is drawn into playing one with a hint of shape away from Ben Allison and it's a simple catch behind the stumps.

    And another for Surrey! Another catch for Ollie Pope at second slip and this one is a brilliant low effort.

    Dan Worrall claims the wicket and Ben Slater is gone. Notts have lost both openers in three overs.
