Your concerns may be eased, Andrew.

Ben Stokes calls for a review as an lbw appeal on Phillips is turned down.

Anybody starting to get a little nervous the way Phillips is playing?

  3. NZ 92-6published at 28 overs

    Target 254

Ben Stokes is keeping Jamie Smith alert, constantly fluctuating between bringing him up to the stumps and sending him back.

It has worked tactically for a couple of wickets so far, but could also just be a bit of mind games with the New Zealand batters.

Just two singles off Robinson's over.

If a little partnership comes together, a few positive shots, the ball rattling to the boundary, it changes the feeling of comfort for England.

I think that's the best way for New Zealand. Devon Conway's been battling it out.

  5. NZ 90-6published at 27 overs

    Target 254

More positivity from Phillips, punched past backward point for a couple.

This is how Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay played so well in England's second innings - defend anything on the stumps, and make sure you capitalise on anything wide when it's presented.

A lot has been said about the pitch, but this has been one of the best bowling displays I’ve seen from England. Great discipline with hardly a ball off line in contrast to the Ashes when our bowlers were all over the place.

  8. NZ 87-6published at 26 overs

    Target 254

    Hello!

Glenn Phillips is not giving up. He whacks Ollie Robinson for two fours, the first straight past mid-off and the second is absolutely clattered through the covers.

He taps the pitch nonchalantly with his bat in between overs, as if begging it to keep behaving for him.

If it stays this way, this will be only the third Test ever played in England without a single over of spin bowled.

  10. NZ 77-6published at 25 overs

    Target 254

Conway had slashed one for four earlier in the over, too, so it's a frustrating over for Josh Tongue.

You don't often see catches off the back foot like that, I think Devon Conway was going to leave it in the end.

Harry Brook wouldn't have seen much of that because he was on the back foot, an unusual one.

Conway dropped on 24published at 24.4 overs

    NZ 77-6

    Harry Brook puts one down!

He'll be fuming with this, as Devon Conway is deceived by Josh Tongue. He considers slapping the ball over the slips but tries to withdraw his bat at the last second.

The ball flies off the edge, Brook gets two hands to it above his head but it bursts through.

  13. NZ 71-6published at 24 overs

    Target 254

Yep, looks like Phillips is going to take the attacking route.

He punches off the back foot for four and that is definitely the best way to go on this pitch. Almost all the other New Zealand batters have been caught on the crease being defensive, and it hasn't worked.

It's jagging around doing all sorts here at Lord's today.

  15. NZ 67-6published at 23.2 overs

    It's all happening!

Ollie Robinson draws the edge from Glenn Phillips but it lands short of slip, before he edges past his stumps for four. Jamie Smith is stood up to the stumps so he had no chance of saving it.

  16. NZ 63-6published at 23 overs

    Target 254

Well, Glenn Phillips was one of few New Zealand players who did play positively in the first innings.

His first ball flies down the leg side for four leg byes past a leaping Jamie Smith, before he nudges to square leg for a single to get off the mark.

There are no signs of hostility or aggression from New Zealand at this stage. If they're going to stand like that, they're going to get bowled out. There's no pressure being put on the bowlers at all.

    WICKETpublished at 22.4 overs

    Blundell lbw b Tongue 4 (NZ 58-6)

    That didn't take long!

Josh Tongue gets one to nip back in to Tom Blundell and combined with it staying a little low, the batter barely stands a chance.

Blundell has a quick chat with Devon Conway about whether to review but decides against it, and New Zealand's hopes of victory dwindle even more.

Josh Tongue's come on leaps and bounds. He was a little bit wayward when we first saw him but he had that potential pace and bustle. He's become a lot more consistent.

I'd say he's England's best bowler at the moment.

  20. NZ 55-5published at 22 overs

    Target 254

Tom Blundell sees out the over with three dot balls.

Josh Tongue will bowl from the other end.
