New England Patriots 10-7 Denver Broncos - third quarter

Another Rhamondre Stevenson run is stopped so kicker Andy Borregales steps back up.

The conditions are a lot trickier then when he came out just a few minutes ago and despite giving it some welly from 46 yards, Borregales' kick drifts over the right upright and just wide.

It stays a three-point game with just seconds to the end of the third quarter.

As both Defences playing well, unless Denver's Offence gets some magic.... Maye is doing enough to win it. Not convinced that these 2 teams are the best in the AFC......

It’s been a fantastic defensive performance from both teams. Sometimes makes a more interesting game than a high scorer when neither defence can do a thing.

Drake Maye again shows his awareness by feeling the pressure in the pocket and scrambling for a first down.

Then the Patriots mix it up with a flea flicker and Maye finds Mack Hollins for 31 yards to get the Patriots into Denver territory.

Jaleel McLaughlin's run is stuffed then Jarrett Stidham takes the right option by checking down to the running back in acres of space yet somehow McLaughlin drops it on second down.

Stidham spreads it wide to Marvin Mims on third down but there's nothing doing so after the mammoth drive by the Patriots, the Broncos go three-and-out.

Defence wins championships is the old adage. Both AFC teams have top defences, but the NFC has this too, but much more potent offences - it's a much stronger conference. Whoever wins in Seattle is taking home another Lombardi trophy.

Even with that sack, New England are only five yards from the end zone, but Mike Vrabel is not taking any chances in a game this tight.

On comes the field-goal unit and Andy Borregales makes no mistake from 23 yards to edge the Patriots in front for the first time, after a drive lasting a whopping nine-and-a half minutes.

New England's offence wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders last week. It's the second week in a row where they have stalled trying to get done what they want to get done.

  11. Sack - Broncos force field goalpublished at 22:07 GMT 25 January

New England Patriots 7-7 Denver Broncos - third quarter

Denver challenged the call for first down and although it stands, New England are unable to punch it in.

Talanoa Hufanga stuffs Rhamondre Stevenson on second down before Drake Maye takes too long in the pocket and is sacked by Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper to force the field goal.

It is too big of a call not to challenge. It is too important. It is the right call to challenge it.

Hunter Henry is deemed just short but on 4th and 1. The Patriots bring in two defensive players to bolster Drake Maye's bid for a quarterback sneak and he just gets enough for first down - despite a Denver challenge.

New England have already eaten up half of the third quarter.

Denver send the blitz, forcing Drake Maye back out of the pocket before he overthrows towards Rhamondre Stevenson in the end zone.

Maye then checks down to Hunter Henry and he rumbles for a few yards after the catch. Was that enough for first down?

I said before the game, Maye needs to have off-scheduled plays for the Patriots to win. He can't do it just standing in the pocket.

New England head coach Mike Vrabel speaking at half-time: "The field position was a big deal early, then I'm proud of the way we settled down. We made it a football game and took advantage of the turnover.

"We've got to get into our rhythm, be able to run the ball and stay balanced. To not beat ourselves, get lined up and start executing."
