Dè tha thu a’ dèanamh? (What are you doing?)

Our intrepid adventurers have learnt a lot over the last few months, and now Munro has figured out how to tell Morag what he is doing. Listen to their conversation to find out what Munro’s been up to.

Morag and Munro having a chat about their plans.

Morag Madainn mhath! Ciamar a tha thu?
Good morning! How are you?
Munro Tha gu math, tapadh leat.
I am fine, thank you.
Morag Dè tha thu a’ dèanamh?
What are you doing?
Munro Tha mi ag òl cupa cofaidh.
I am drinking a cup of coffee.
Morag Tha mi a’ dèanamh cèic an-dràsta.
I am making a cake just now.
Munro A bheil thu a’ dèanamh càil feasgar?
Are you doing anything in the afternoon?
Morag Tha. Tha mi a’ seòladh san fheasgar.
Yes. I am sailing in the afternoon.
Munro Bidh mise a’ cluich ball-coise.
I will be playing football.
Now listen to their conversation.

You can see from the conversation that the construction “a’ dèanamh” can mean both doing and making.
