Dè an uair a tha e?

In Gaelic the word uair is used to mean both hour and o'clock. Let's look at how it works:

Useful vocabulary
Gaelic English
uair / uairean an hour / hours*
aon deug eleven (11)
aon uair deug 11 o’clock**

* Gaelic uses uair when talking about 1 or 2 hours, or 1 o’clock & 2 o’clock and uairean when talking about 3+ hours, or 3 o’clock onwards.

** Note that Gaelic puts the hour between the words for the ten and the unit, eg: aon deug / aon uair deug.
