Bowler by Maxine Dodd

"Much of my work is based around landscapes where I live; the fields, the animals and the village cricket ground nearby. This summer I’ve sketched cricketers. Drawing them running, stretching, bowling and batting. While I worked, I listened to Test Match Special, to Aggers and  Blowers and CMJ. In my studio, the process starts again to make a finished piece from the sketches I've made. Radio on first, choose my equipment, medium and colours. I draw, lay colour and wait for the paint to dry. Wickets fall, runs are scored, catches missed – agony, ecstasy – good picture or bad? Start again!"
