"Radio 4 has been my constant companion all my life. I remember drawing as a child in steamy kitchens on a Sunday, sketching as student in halls and for the last 20 years painting and illustrating in my studio. Like many of my artist friends it provides a wallpaper, a sense of order to the day, there are moments when I hear nothing, if I am too absorbed in painting, but there is many a time I can relate a brushstroke or a colour in the painting to the Afternoon Play or The Archers. I actually feel lonely without it."
