Fat Nation - The Big Challenge

Other programming

CBBC

There is a Short Change Special on CBBC to tie in with the launch of Fat Nation – The Big Challenge which tackles the serious issue of obesity in children.

It lets children have their say and get to the bottom of the problem in order to address the issue.

The programme surveys the nation's lunchboxes and investigates whether there are enough healthy and appealing school dinners options.

The Short Change Special issues an adapted version of the nine challenges to the CBBC audience.

CBBC also goes behind the scenes with the children in the street and features a video diary of the children doing their new regime, such as walking to school, giving up burgers, or healthy snack tips.

English Regions

BBC Local Radio is an important part of the campaign bringing the challenges to the streets and communities in their own area, and the best local activity will be included in the BBC ONE series.

There will be events across the country and reporter Jude Habib will be reporting live from the street.

Here are some of the activities planned:

BBC Radio Solent is organising the Big Dance - a day of salsa, ballroom dancing, foxtrotting and line dancing;

BBC Radio Lincolnshire's bus is going to be at a truckstop on the A15 trying to convert truckers away from the traditional fry-up to something a little more healthy;

BBC Radio Gloucestershire is using its open centre to invite listeners to meet Gloucester rugby players to exchange healthy tips;

BBC Radio Kent/Southern Counties Radio/South East Today are doing a joint campaign featuring audio diaries from families, and using the exhibition truck to weigh/test people at the start and end of the television show.

BBC Radio Cambridgeshire is going to the Women's Centre in Peterborough and following local Asian women to find out about reducing the amount of fat in curries.

BBC London and Look North in Hull are working on a joint project to swap mums from their areas.
