Schoolhouse to battlefield Frank Gillard joined the BBC as a war correspondent in 1941. He had previously been a school teacher. He reported on the Normandy Landings and in 1945 broke the news to the world of the link-up between the US and Soviet forces at the River Elbe. This picture was taken on VE day in Kassel, central Germany. |
