Your actually just outside the entrance to the stable yard here -
located on the opposite side of the race course.
On race day the yard is a secure area - so you can only stand and
watch as the horses are led through to their stables.
This is where the action all begins at 6.00am on a raceday morning.
Often horses and stable lads coming from trainers’ yards a long way
from Nottingham will be staying overnight in our hostel next door
to the stables, with the horse boxes parked up.
On a raceday, the stable yard is a secure area and closely guarded
by the Jockey Club Security team – and only certain persons are permitted
access.
There are a total of 128 stables, including six high security stables,
all with different types of bedding for the horses, (paper cuttings
or wooden shavings).
We get through a total of 1500 bales each year.
We have to clean out and disinfect each stable inbetween every race
meeting. |
