4.12.1915 Unit departed from Liverpool for Alexandrovsk (now Murmansk) en route to Archangel.

1.1.1916 Came ashore at Alexandrovsk.

Jan-May 1916 Unable to progress due to ice on the White Sea.

28.5.1916 Arrived in Archangel.

13.6.1916 Moved south across Russia by train and arrived in Vladikavkaz (S.Russia) via Moscow.

Jul-Oct 1916 Moved by convoy south west through Georgiai, Armenia, and into Turkey where they first met the enemy in the form of Kurdish irregulars and Turks. It was here that the Unit's first medals were awarded.

27.11.1916 Moved north west by train along the north of the Black Sea via Odessa and into Rumania to help the Rumanians and Russians in trying to stem the advance of Bulgarian forces into south west Rumania.

November 1916 Travelled by barge up the River Danube to confront the advancing Bulgarians.

Nov-Dec 1916 Fought a number of actions against the Bulgarians but forced to withdraw to avoid being outflanked by the German 9th Army which had defeated the main Rumanian army in central Rumania and was advancing south east towards the Black Sea coast to link up with their Bulgarian allies.

Dec 1916-Jan 1917 Covered the Russian withdrawal across the Russia/Rumania border and established base in Tiraspol just across the Russian frontier.

Jan-Jun 1917 The Unit manned a section of the front and were regularly in action against German/Bulgarian forces.

March 1917 Outbreak of the Russian Revolution. Subsequent to this, relations became strained with their Russian allies. The RACD personnel were in general sympathetic to the aims of the Revolution and accepted the need for change, in Russian society. Their desire however to continue the war and to attack the enemy in the trenches was not shared by the Russian troops, who had no heart for further losses. The end result on 20 May 1917 was a serious brawl outside the British billets in which one Russian soldier and one English rating were killed.

June 1917 Left Tiraspol and moved north by train to Galicia (Austria) to assist the Russians in a major offensive planned by the new Provisional Government and under the command of General Brusilov.

1.7.1917 In action on the first day of the offensive at Brzezany. Initial successes along the front soon turned to a disorderly retreat as the Russians could not muster reserve troops. This proved to be the last Russian offensive of the Great War.

Jul-Aug 1917 Covered the withdrawal of Russian forces on a 20 mile front earning the commendation of General Kornilov (later to be a major figure in the White Army in the Civil War) and the award of 24 Crosses of St George for conspicuous gallantry in action.

August 1917 First draft (48 strong) left for Archangel via Moscow.

September 1917 Main body (minus cars, lorries, etc) followed the first draft.

Sep-Oct 1917 Arrivals back in Britain.

December 1917 RACD barracks at Kursk (W.Russia) raided by Bolsheviks. No bloodshed but RACD personnel disabled their remaining cars and guns.

February 1918 Final draft left for England having abandoned all their remaining equipment at Kursk.
