Dromara Vintage Day 2002 - Page 3
There's a real sense of glory about this magnificent piece of machinery which happens to be called 'Pioneer'; doesn't every young boy just dream of being allowed to drive a traction engine or even being invited up for a ride? As working tools they began the revolution of agriculture which Harry Ferguson's tractors were to accelerate yet further - and as a result were responsible for putting thousands of farm workers out of jobs, yet we now adore them - funny old world ain't it?
Even the old Ulster Transport green bus evokes for many the memory of going to work on dark mornings or perhaps a special day trip to the seaside. This one, frozen in time, has its destination permanently set to Lisburn. Does anyone know what year it would have made its last offical run to the town? |
Of course vintage vehicles hold an appeal for all age groups... This happy two year old was in tractor heaven. It is a matter of fact that "Tractor" was his very first word - even before "mummy". Who knows he might well drive an exhibit to this event in years to come.
Just a few years older is the gentleman who's contented smile suggests that he's lost in his own private memories, perhaps of a life of working a farm? |
