Scotland World Cup hopes in the air after Brazil game

Scotland's fans were left disappointed on Wednesday after 3-0 defeat from Brazil in Miami.

The five-time world champions left Scotland's hopes of getting through to the knock out stages up in the air.

Vinicius Jr dominated with two goals, a third disallowed by VAR.

Matheus Cunha added a third to complete Brazil's victory.

Scotland is the sixth best third-place team - the top eight go through.

It was a exasperating game for Scotland fans.

Defender Scott Mckenna made a huge mistake right at the start by hesitating with the ball allowing Brazil's Rayan who plays for Bournemouth to swoop in.

A pass to Vinícius Jr led to Brazil's first goal, in the seventh minute.

VAR disallowed a second goal from the forward, but he was soon able to nod in a cross at the back post in the first half stoppage time.

In the second half Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes wins the ball from Scotland's Kenny McLean before passing it to Matheus Cunha to score a third goal.

What next for Scotland?

A draw with Brazil would have been enough for Scotland to reach the last 32 of the World Cup.

But after the brutal 3-0 defeat from Brazil in their final group-stage game, there is an anxious wait to see if they are one best eight third-place finishers.

Of the 12 teams who finish third in their group, eight will go through.

It could be as late as Sunday before they know as the other teams in third-place standings have their final group games.
