England were unable to repeat their successful first World Cup game against Croatia as a determined Ghana held them to a draw at Boston Stadium on Tuesday night.

It was a frustrating game for the Three Lions, who despite having the ball for most of the game, were unable to break down Ghana.

England captain Harry Kane missed one of the best chances to score.

Read on to find out what happened during the match.

What happened during the England v Ghana game?

On the back of their opening 4-2 game against Croatia, England hoped to continue their winning form against Ghana.

Ghana are ranked 64th in the world, one of the lowest-ranked in the tournament, but that didn't stop them from determinedly defending throughout the game.

It was hard for England to get shots on goal despite having 79% possession.

Bukayo Saka was brought on as a substitute by manager Thomas Tuchel

Substitute Bukayo Saka was brought on in the second half and forced a good save from Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

Nico O'Reilly, another substitute headed against the bar, with the rebound giving Kane a perfect opportunity to score but it went over the bar.

Marc Guehi also had a header saved off the line.

Ghana fans are now celebrating after the team have secured four points with one match remaining, giving them a good chance of going through to the next stage.

What next for England?

England would have secured their place in the World Cup knockout stages with a win.

Instead, despite being the top of Group L, they must wait until their game against Panama on Saturday to ensure qualification.

Manager Thomas Tuchel told the BBC nothing is a given:

"Even the third match against Panama, even if it's the most unknown name, they were very good against Ghana, it will be tough".
