  1. 'I didn't know why I was in pain'published at 10:21 GMT 26 March

The inquiry has heard after Wayne Birkett was struck by the van Valdo Calocane was driving, he was taken to the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, then to an intensive care unit, followed by a major trauma ward and then a rehabilitation unit called Linden Lodge.

Wayne said all he could remember from Linden Lodge was being in pain.

"I didn't know why I was in pain, why my head was hurting.

"It was confusing. They wouldn't give me answers as to why I was there," he said.

His partner Tracey added: "It was a real struggle because he actually didn't understand why he was there, couldn't remember what had happened and he's woken up in this place and doesn't know what the place is.

"So he was really anxious and he can obviously see there's people around him in bed."

Sharon previously said: "Since the attack, I don't like leaving the house.

"I get blood clots in my legs so I have to wear stockings for the rest of my life."

She added a scar on her leg was a "constant reminder" of what happened.

"My life's changed dramatically. My social life's gone out the window," she said.
